#Blaugust2019 – Blinded by the light

Not us, we were blinded by brilliance. BRILLIANCE!!! I was all prepared to head back into EP and kick Queen Azshara in the face, especially since I finally finished the storyline to open up the raid but we started at heroic. First, spoiler warning – if you haven’t completed the scenario handed to you in Nazjatar, I am going to back track a little.

I only just completed the entire story thanks to my food poisoning, I felt well enough on Thursday/Friday to shuffle my way through it. I cannot express how this game makes me feel, suffice it to say when you get Baine out of the dungeon and Jaina and Thrall are standing across from Thunder Bluff wondering why they are working together because nothing changes and Jaina touches his arm and says, “We have.”; I lost my mind. Tears starting streaming down my face, I couldn’t stop them. This is not the first cinematic to bring me to tears (most of them do) and should the next xpac be about dragons you can bet I will be bawling constantly.

I started Alliance so I have a soft spot for Jaina as any long time reader would know. She was a mage, like my character, and she was amazing. Thrall was my second love when I switched to the horde and discovered his story and his deep sense of honour. They are my two favourite non-dragon historical figures in the Azerothian lore.

To see them on screen, fighting together to save Baine who also has a deep sense of honour and dislike for the way Sylvanas has been acting, my heart just couldn’t take it. Then after the scenario you head off to find the tidestone and once again work together with the alliance and whilst killing naga they are saying to each other how impressed they are with their fighting skills and had there not been a faction war they could have been friends. Oh my heart.

Anyway, after having done all that I was finally able to get to the raid without having to be summoned and I had a quest to kill the Queen. So I was super excited for raid thinking we would be going back in to kill Zaqul and her. Instead we did heroics and smashed Shivara and Behemoth (I have discovered I can use barkskin on almost every single shocking pulse if I time it just right!). We then did Radiance. I still hate this fight. I think it is stupid and has crap mechanics just to piss off any and every single class that needs to cast. I hate it. But on the more positive side Nelly has found a strat that seems to work when done correctly. Just keep moving when the whirlwinds get dropped, bunch into melee and stick together. It actually works really well if everyone moves when they need to. It removes a lot of the randomness of the encounter. Unless you get the bomb twice in a row and get too far from the group because you don’t get dispelled. Boo stupid bombs. Stupid fight.

So after just a couple of attempts. we killed Radiance in heroic!! We are now 3/8H!

We did also go back and do the other two in normal; I had to go down through the portals into the fear level for the first time on Zaqul and I pretty much just spent the entire fight going “WTF?” – I need a few more runs on that one before I will understand it. We also had an issue on Queen and wiped a couple of times but I am not sure what happened. I thought we had that one down, but it was just a little wonky. Either way we are moving through the new raid and getting gear – this is a win win!!

OMG you guys!! The Queen!

Guess what we did when we went back into the Eternal palace?

(Lemme just add a small note in here about the post delay. I had a hugely busy weekend which landed me with some Food poisoning. I have been barely able to function so I apologize for not posting sooner.)

CLEARED NORMAL!

Yeah we killed her!! Funny story though, a fair percent of people mentioned they were dreading coming back in for a wipe night on her because she was difficult to do. However the tanks confirmed their plans before we started and really got it pinned down, and then Slobaguts, our illustrious ex raid leader who deserted us but still comes back to hang with us occasionally, provided us with a new strat of just “burn, baby, burn!” So instead of messing around with the add phase and moving around, you basically just get the tanks to hold them while we focus boss and kick her into the next phase. Sploosh. I am pretty grateful to him as it only took us a couple of attempts and we had her like a good octopus soup!

Grats on clearing it in normal 2 weeks after opening! You guys are the heroes Azeroth needs right now!

Of course the next step was heroic right? That is what we are here for!! None of this namby pamby normal stuff (although, the gear is still great in normals!).

What was different in Heroic Shivara….oh you have to move or stop depending on your colour and the overflow has to be with other people to manage. Yeah just enough of a mental mindplay to cause me issues. I died early due to an overflow that I just didn’t click meant I had to group up with others. I was watching it on my screen and then I just, sort of….died. LOL Bad Boomy!

However!!! My death aside we did have to do this a second time anyway.

1/8 Heroic

We then sauntered over to the behemoth and struggled a little on him. Only a little struggle though, I was having a nice relax in the deep tank flotation session. , It is stressful being a hero trying to save the world after all!

In typical Warsong fashion though, we did manage to kill him with only Oui alive and the tanks. What you can’t see in this image is that Soulmend had been in his angel form until just before death so was providing just enough to keep them going. It has been a while since we killed a boss in “Warsong style” which makes me pretty proud of the team. But this was such a return to form I had to make comment. Well done Oui, Aaron, Laurie and Berin for reeling in the big one!

2/8 Heroic

My screenshot folder is like a moving animation page of the hitpoints going down. I even made it into a small video for you so you could appreciate what going through my screenshot folder is like!! It is only 17 seconds long 🙂

I should also remind everyone there is a youtube playlist with our kills on there if you want to see how we do them from a monks POV, and sometimes a few others. I wonder if I should start recording as well so you can see from a bad boomy POV, but not sure I want you all to see how bad I am when I die to stupid stuff 🙂

Well done guys!! I can’t wait to see the Queen fall to us in heroic!! Only a few more to get through.

Mastering the masters

So I am not entirely sure we can say we mastered them perfectly, but we did kill the blue and green MnM duo.

Image result for m&m's blue and green

I went in terrified about the going upstairs phase, mainly because I remember Ben mocking all dead people last time about how it isn’t hard to do. But I guess a week of gear and some extra practise meant we didn’t even get to the phase, we timed our blood lust just right and managed to kill her very quickly after her transition. We didn’t get thrown up into the air! I would say that is mastering them 🙂 Just pump out the DPS so you can avoid mechanics is my favourite part of raiding.

I have too many boss kill photos dead….I need to pay Nibble and Nelly more money 3/9H

We then spent the rest of the night smashing out Opulence. It is very unforgiving in Heroic mode with damage, if you get hit by something it is generally good night. But there was one attempt where my side did no DPS (just avoided mechanics) for about 5 minutes so the other side could catch up (due to death, not a DPS issue) because we just wanted to get through to the Opulence room and see the actual fight.

I apparently killed Nibblepie with some well placed gold, monks apparently don’t like gold being dropped at their feet. But I swear it wasn’t me because I remember getting it just after his death and using my bound backward spell to get out of everyone’s way. I felt super bad about having killed him. I don’t like killing other people when raiding let alone when I die myself. I shall be hyper vigilant next time.

Opulence – 65%

Our best attempt on him was about 65% and with only managing to get to him 2 times in total. I think that was a fair effort. The adds that spawn move so much faster as well and we simply didn’t have enough time to kill them. I think that is going to be a fun challenge, especially with the golden coin showers (ewwww) and the molten gold.

This fight like all I guess, is you just have to get the hang of each phase and it takes work to get to those phases so you can see them. We need to move faster though. Nelly advised they are going to start working on Heroics on Wednesday know instead of normals so that will at least give better gear, but we have to go back and kill Jaina in Normal mode at some point.

Speaking of, I went and did LFR and completed Jaina. I had the quest to complete her and I figured I was sick at home why not. It wasn’t too bad. We wiped on her once but then smashed it the second time. I didn’t find it that hard to deal with in LFR so I wonder how different it is in normal/heroic. There is a lot going on – no argument here – but I think if the tanks can get their positioning right and the DPS watch their debuffs and get out of the bad (and into the good when they need it) we should be able to smash it. I don’t feel as scared doing her now though.

Once you complete this you get more story and Sylvanas becomes even more twisted. Stop reading this here if you don’t want to know anymore or you haven’t finished this part of the quest.

You are tasked with attending the funeral of King Rastakan and the city now has mourners travelling to the top of the Great Seal.

After offering her “condolences” she decides to raise the corpse on the boat, Daelin Proudmore; to be an undead to use against the alliance in return for their killing of King Rastakan.

Daelin’s memorial stone.

Baine is very unhappy about this – very unhappy – but Sylvanas basically tells him to shut it – she controls death and will do was she pleases. This sounds like the banshee who is still as crazy as she was when she burnt down the World Tree. I don’t like it one bit, it shows an arrogance and rage that a Warchief shouldn’t have had.

Master of Death

I am wondering when this will blow up into the next main story section of getting Sylvanas out of office? However the story basically stops at that point with plans needing to be worked out. The entire thing is very cool, so if nothing else make sure you get Jaina killed so you can hand in the quest and see the reaction Baine has. He must be so close to the end of his tether with her, especially when she says she will not let her allies (the Zandalari) suffer alone. She is one twisted banshee.

Mekkatragic

I was once again late to raid on Wednesday night, which happened to be the last one for me for a while due to Karate being back on. So when I finally did get into the game, I was told they had killed Rastakhan!!! I was very impressed – that was a hellish fight (and mostly sad I missed it).

I have no idea if they got me a screenshot but I am sure someone will send me something if they did…eventually.

I actually turned up whilst they were attempted Mekkatorque and it sounded like they were about to kill him. Not having read up about the next fight (I had researched the crap out of Rasta), I had no clue what Nelly was calling out – blue you’re orange, then blue, then red; Red you’re blue, then green, then..what the hell are you on about.

Blessedly they wiped 🙂 Muhahahahah.

Image result for sorry not sorry

I got an invite and jumped in, Nelly getting me to root things like a good druid straight off the bat. We then did the fight again – me having zero clue what was going on – just rooting little bots and hoping like heck I didn’t get shrunk because I was so confused about the colour calls.

Would you believe I got shrunk on the last one about 30 seconds before the boss died, so my ineptitude didn’t affect the raid!

It is definitely a different experience being in a run with the guild when we are doing a new boss. People aren’t joking around as much, they are more easily frustrated and everyone wants their idea to be the one that works.

Ultimately, we get it done and that is the important thing 🙂

Mekkatorque 7/9N

The rest of this evening was spent on Blockade. Can I just say…what in heck Blizz. OMG. This is horrific. Solidly, horribly, terribly icky. This fight made me long for Patchwerk. Seriously. I just want a nice easy fight were I can face-roll my way to success 🙂 LOL

I was on the ship with the sirens and it was pretty difficult to stay out of the poop, get the siren, stay behind the poop if you got targeted by said siren but also drop the poop in a useful spot. Yuergh. Horrid. Even the slightest delay or bad placement and you were sent off the ship to your death. End of story.

It took us a few attempts to get this bit due to sudden onset death of our boat, but once we got it handled we had about 5 attempts where we made it back to the pier.

It was at this point even I got frustrated. Maybe because I had just watched the strat video or maybe I was just annoyed at the sirens, no idea. Not because we were wiping but because people would not stack up on each other. Like seriously guys you need to be on top of each other to reduce the ground mess. Don’t stand next to each other – you just spread it out. OMG!! Unless you played all the way zoomed in with your camera – you don’t need to see your actual toon.

If you do play with your camera zoomed all the way in – I would suggest you are doing something grievously wrong. Wrong!

Of course it was making me even more annoyed people were blaming everything but themselves as to why we were failing and trying to come up with different solutions to a problem which didn’t even exist. (Omg that sentence structure is terrible but I am still annoyed!)

https://www.furaffinity.net/view/4209473/

Anyway we weren’t getting very far into this one, adds being dropped early, balls not being soaked, ground covered in muck. Hopefully next attempts will be better.

Zul-tastic!

Oh you cheeky raid group!!  I wassail recovering my from my near death flu, so was home on Wednesday to raid, I wasn’t going to as I wasn’t feeling 100% but it sucked me in. I ended up dropping at Zek because I was just exhausted. We cleared out the first bosses and I had a weapon drop that I was already carrying in my bags. Thanks RNGeebus.   I did get a screenshot of dead Vectis since I missed that one originally.

Friday. Friday was amazing though. I was a few minutes late thanks to work/transport but I logged into discord with Jason saying he would be dropping people if we sucked and I was thinking maybe I should just sit out. I am so glad I asked to come anyway though.

We had someone, a priest…Rempart? who was helping with the strats so I can only assume they were someone we knew somehow. I like having other people in helping us.  Our DPS has increased enough (including mine) that we were able to do the zerg strat as it is supposed to be done.

The lack of pre-potting was brought up by Laurie and I felt slightly guilty as this is one of the first weeks I actually had any pre-pots ready to go but as Ben said they are just too expensive. Need to spend more time herbing so I can make some more, but I just need so many mats on my mage it is ridiculous.  I didn’t think it would be possible to make professions even worse than Legion but they managed it.   I went through the stack of 20 pots I had during the night because I wanted to make sure I made up for my lack of DPS by using everything I could.

It took us a few goes after getting him to the second phase repeatedly before it all clicked in a very non-“Warsong” style (ie 90% of the raid dead, boss at 1% and a couple of poor buggers giving everything they had) but we did it!!  Don’t laugh, that is actually our style.  It is how we get most of our first kills, but I will say after that first one we do it much better the next week 🙂

We decided to take a picture away from the death hole incase someone happened to “accidentally” click it.

We headed to Mythrax next of course, he wasn’t much worse than normal imho. He hits harder and you take way more damage overall so you have to be much more careful but honestly it wasn’t that bad.  The healers suffer the most in this one if the rest of us are being numpty.

I loved the advice of “everyone should take less damage” hehehh; honestly I thought the objective was to take as much as possible 🙂  Love my guild sometimes. It made me laugh.   I wasn’t sure we would get this one as we kept getting to 30% and then being all dead; the first transition was a little rough but also bumping people out their balls of death was killing us because we were doing it badly.

As luck would have it though, after we stopped taking so much damage (which ironically is not represented well in the picture I took of the kill), the healers had more mana, we talked through the ball bumping better and would you believe it? We smooshed his face into the ground.

Can I just say how freaking happy I am it happened on Friday night!!! I was there for it 🙂  <happy dance>

I was relatively happy with my DPS, I was in the middle of the pack and doing pretty well (I thought). I was expecting boomies to be really bad when I started the xpac but they have made enough small changes that I am happy to stay as boomkin for a while longer.  I definitely could get more out of her if my gear was better stat weighted, but I simply am not online enough to get all the gear opportunities.  I might have to make a concerted effort to spend one day on the weekend to do some heroics, expeditions, world bosses etc.

Now we are left with G’huun then we will have cleared heroic again 🙂  I sort of don’t want them to do it on Wednesday, but I also don’t want them to spend the entire night wiping just so I can get the kill with them on Friday!  I am allowed to be selfish, no laws against it in Azeroth!!

Zul the Wipemaster

What a rough and awesome night all rolled into one.  I think the most demoralising thing about learning this fight is the difficulty with knowing what percent you are actually getting him to.

We started out the night all pumped up to kill a new boss. The guys were still on a high from their Vectis one shot – they were expecting it to be really hard and it wasn’t.

So Zul. The conversation was mildly distracting throughout most of the night:

Someone in the guild, who shall remain nameless, lead us down the path of depravity into learning what a stuntcock was.  Don’t look it up kiddies without adding reference to urban dictionary maybe.  The chat pretty much stayed in the gutter the entire night, thanks to Justin pulling out lines like this throughout the night.  I am glad Ben isn’t able to stream at the moment – it would be soooo rude.

We accidentally pulled the boss to start a couple of times, thanks to random things, however what was funny was we all made comment that it could only get better than 100% from here right?  How wrong could we be?  It was 100% all night because of the bloods.

However we did have a few low spots, we were getting to 50% consistently but generally we would get overrun with ads.

This started to be the common view.  We did however though, get him to 35% on one attempt and then consistently we were getting him to phase 2 with a very quickly end to the attempt after that.

We tried the zerg method (bunch up and focus on boss only to get him to 40% with Bloodhexers CC’d). I think we were just short of DPS to make this work and I am meaning a whisker close. If the guys pick up some new gear on Wednesday night they have a fair shot on Friday I think.   We also tried the method of control with focus on adds and on the couple of attempts I spent zero time on the boss and all my time running around chasing adds.

For some reason I kept being the person to jump into the purple puddles of death (they mostly spawned right next to me), and I noticed Zeirah was jumping in them a fair bit as well – I kept thinking she was Lana though as she was cat form when jumping into them and would change back to her normal self and I was so confused!!  I think I even called her Lana at once stage – my apologies lovely!!

I think the zerg method worked best and  we will be really close next week, if not killed.  Phase 2 is really hard – I have no idea how we are going to be able to handle all the adds that are up plus all the red crap on the ground. But hey that’s the fun of it right?

I read some strats (as I do) and noted that some strats mentioned moving the blood hexxer when they spawned to the side of their spawn location so a second one wouldn’t spawn on top. I would like to see how that works in practise as I am not sure how far they need to be from each other.  Almost need a DK or something to grab it to the point of a hunter trap or something.   I also read that because the boss can’t be tanked in the first phase, the tanks should be picking up the blood hexxers, which would also make moving them easier I think?  No idea but it sounded like it made the most sense. Not sure how that works for the tanks though but it might help with the super fast bloods!!

21 wipes in one night. It was expensive and fun. So much fun.

Thanks Daylight savings

I hate DST. I detest it. Such a stupid convention. Anyway due to the stupidity of changing the time the Kiwis in the guild needed to change the raid night for the week until we in Aus caught up.  So we raided Friday and Saturday instead. I tried to drag Zeirah along but she had already pugged normals for the week so I didn’t think it would be fair to drag her through our run 🙂

Image result for daylight savings stupid

We smashed through normal though. Did we get all the way through?  Am I remembering that badly? I died on Zul – to the point that just before I suicided off the edge Nelly said “Goodbye Mel!” – like seriously Nelly had time to notice me and say goodbye and one of you dispellers couldn’t save me in time!  hurumpf. Unbelievable.  Thankfully now when you die it dumps you into he middle of the platform so you can watch the action instead of just leaving you on the side.  Mythrax gave us a few issues and G’huun was a one shot. No issues. The ball bouncers did their stuff and it went smoothly.

We logged on for Heroic on Saturday and we were down a heals so I suggested I could see if Zeirah was up for it.  She was.

Heroic Taloc was easy enough, except for the fact that Nelly wasn’t around to do the laser beams so Ben was volunteered by Jason to do it. We get to the last one and Ben was saying ” yeah you should probably move soon, you will be ok for a”…..and then the laser comes through and hits a few people….ahahhaha  It was hilarious.  It was messy towards the end we had very few places left to stand I kept getting cut off from the raid and was out of range. But we ultimately got him down.

One of the worst nights on M.O.T.H.E.R. I have seen.  We just couldn’t get it to happen – 50% of the attempts were caused by a bug in which she drops aggro and even without Aaron touching her, she turns and walks away from Brian. It is really annoying as she was walking straight through into the other room.  I think Brian was getting frustrated by it because there is literally nothing you can do about it.  In the end though he got her under control and our first group going through stopped letting a cast off one of the adds and we smashed it.

Fetid devourer went down without an issue. So far Jason hadn’t remembered any of the heroic mechanics so we were reminding him as the fight started which was funny and hectic.  Almost like having to remind him before every pull to give us fortitude. I swear you would think people like having the extra buffs again, just leave the druids out – thanks again Blizz. I would like to be able to buff with Wild or Thorns even!!

Then Zek.  What can I say. This guy is a twat. a twat monkey. a crab. GAHHHHH

I think we got him to 37% at the lowest point? We seemed to be doing much better with the eye beams but it is just such a high risk move having us grouped up.  If one person has lag, is not paying attention or just slightly slower in moving they kill the entire raid.   I even changed my spec to get the bounding backward option but was then too chicken to use it because what if it isn’t far enough back and I wipe the raid?  Or what if I still need to move further backward and because it is backward I don’t turn my toon fast enough and run forward instead? Or what if it doesn’t send me backwards – if it is as bad as blink I could kill everyone.  I chickened out (no pun intended) and just continued to run.

I watched quite a few videos and read strats and I couldn’t find one where anyone grouped up – to be fair – mythic groups require you spread out as the eye beam is instant cast so you don’t have time to move.  But I figure it is just a safer option to not kill the entire raid, but maybe only kill one or two people.  No idea.  I hope they kill him on Wednesday even though it will kill me to not be there 🙂

Sindragosa 3rd Phase…

yes, this is still a problem….

We got Blood queen down last night after about 3 attempts I think? Might have been 4…so not quite there, we are still having too many people dying right towards the end…bad timing on our part with the DPS I think and her air phases….

So we went to Sind, had a few attempts and got smashed every time.

We are trying something new for us though and that is tanking her parallel to the staircase.   That seemed to be going much better than any other attempts we also tried having 1 tank, 2 healers and just bburning her in the last phase, but I am undecided if that worked better or worse 😀

So we have all of Monday night to work on her, with everyone on the stairs and pew pewing it seemed to make it a lot easier, I have no idea why but it seemed to work for us.

We are thinking of extendeding the lockout for the first time this week, but the appealing thing is we knocked over 9 bosses and the ICC weekly in one night, it’s a lot of badges…24 or something I think we worked out…but I am not so sure 24 badges makes up for killing Sind 🙂 hehhehe  but then I am a sadist 🙂

I just want her down this reset!!  If we kill her then we will likely defiantly extened the lockout this week I think so we can go and definately have a look at LK 🙂 o.O  to be 11/12!!!  LOL

Thorim Strat

So we have figured that either 2 hunters or a hunter and a melee down the gauntlet works really well for us, and also 2 tanks in the arena seems to be the winner for us. I know it reduced a DPS, but in all honesty, I think 2 tanks is more important in keeping people alive.

There really isn’t much else to the strat, once he comes down we just get everyone to move out of the orbs and kick his butt.

Our first killing of him we did with about 1.5 minutes to spare, so we did have some wiggle room which was nice 🙂

Iron Council Strat

So far the best strat that has worked for us, is having our MT grab Steelbreaker and tank him near the front door, and an OT picking up Morogrim (or whatever his name is) and tanking him to the left hand side of the room. (Left hand as you are looking at them).  We don’t even worry about a tank on Brundir until after Steelbreaker is down.

Basically we pop heroism as soon as possible on Steelbreaker so we can get him down faster. We have one healer on Morogrim Tank and 1.5 on the Steelbreaker tank.  We send out .5 tank healer to help on Moro just as Steelbreaker is dying – approx 10% as the tank on Moro ends up taking more.  We all race over to Moro, with the Steelbreaker tank going and picking up Brunir.

Our last good attempts we got Brundir to about 50% before we just had too few alive.

The Runes of Death lived up to their name and just kept killing people.

Seems to work well for us, just hoping we can get some good practice in as I think this is a winner.

Hodir Strat

So basically our Hodir Strat is to remove all the NPC’s from the iceblocks – every time the flash freeze happens…get them out – starting with the mage of course 😀

We tank him in the centre of the circle on the ground and try and keep him as still as possible, so we don’t have to move around as much.  We don’t use a frost tank, and we don’t tank him up the back of the room.

Avoid the runes and priest for Mass dispel is super awesome 😀  We also don’t generally worry about the moonbeams very much and we focus more on the toasty fires.

Sounds easy on paper, much harder in practice 😀  It works for us 🙂

Auriya Strat

Crazy cat Lady 😀  Evil bitch this one.

We use a few combos of strats out there, we have a hunter/immolation trap, DK/D&D, Pally/Consecrate etc to pull them over, we stand at the top of the stars and the end of their patrol and we hide 😀  We have an OT for the 2 cats and a tank for the boss. Generally our Prot warrior takes the 2 cats and our feral takes the boss.

We DPS one cat then the other, popping heroism at the start. If we are having a good DPS night, both cats will be down before the first scream, otherwise the second cat will be at approx 10% health and gets burned down pretty quickly once we get back.

We let the OT pick up the feral defender as much as possible and we don’t DPS it all, just let the general AOE splash damage kill it, at about 5% health we try and move it away from the boss and if not possible the tank starts moving the boss away for the void sphere that spawns.  once the defender is down we move the boss to the the other end of the platform not even very far really, enough that if people get feared it isn’t in the void zone.

Generally we get 2 spawns of the feral defender and only one void zone before the boss is killed.

Kologarn Strat

Kologarn, is such a fun fight 🙂 Dead easy too 😀

MT attacks Kologarn – funny that :d  Making sure they dont’ fall off the ledge 😀  We have lost so many people down the front of Kologarn’s pants 😀

All DPS is on the Right Arm, we pop heroism when the arm respawns.  We have our OT pick up all the adds that spawn when the arms is killed, and me and a lock generally AOE the adds down as soon as the tank has aggro.

Wait for the arm to respawn then take it down again, we don’t worry about the left arm.

The only other thing is to watch out for the eyebeams…we basically run towards the back wall and then along the wall if we get targeted, it keeps it away from the rest of them 🙂
