AoTC – G’huunalicious

We have had a few weeks since my last raiding post being stuck on Zul, Mythrax and G’huun.  It has been a little bit of a struggle not because we aren’t good enough – we really are, but because we have had weird class mixes or not enough people etc.

One of the questions I was asked recently was “Why, by all the laws of science, does it take our guild to the very last attempt of the night to kill the boss?”  No solid answers came up except that perhaps on that very last attempt people actually pay full attention and do everything they can to stay alive and be aware.  The conclusion we drew was that we need to only allow a certain amount of attempts on the boss before moving on.  Which works for the middle bosses who you can do in any order, but not for the ones at the start.  My additional cruelty to this would be after the limited number of attempts you drop the difficulty back down until people can stay focused on those bosses….hahah.

I honestly wish we didn’t spend all night wiping to kill the boss on the last attempt and not because I don’t love raiding, but because people get angry at each other and we feel like we can’t do it….which is rubbish because we know we can do it – we have evidence on every kill we can do it.  So why…why is it  the absolute last pull of the night?

We started the night with 13 people and on patch night with computer issues everywhere. Drops, mini freezes, latency that wasn’t latency; it was my usual rage inducing experience.  Nothing makes me quite as angry as wanting to play WoW and being excited to get into it and having issues with the game.  My taurean (and tauren) side comes out like waving a red flag. Sets me right off into swearing and cussing.

We gave Mythrax a few attempts and were struggling with only 2 healers, but then a few of the people from Resplendant (another guild) were available and we pulled them in to make a 20 man raid. It was at this point after fluffing about for 10 minutes that my computer decided to really take a crap and it took me 3 restarts to be able to get back into game because WoW was not happy.  I finally logged in and found I was booted from the raid and ported back to the Great Seal and the guys were killing Mythrax.

I lost my mind. I cannot explain how much I lost my mind.  Part of my rage was because I spend all my raid time wiping. I only raid on Fridays which is usually hard boss night, so I don’t actually get any benefit from raiding just loss of money. So the opportunity for me to get one piece of gear (when I don’t currently) pissed me off so much.  I didn’t want to spend the rest of the night wiping on another boss with no gratification or gear out of it.  I had spent 8k buying potions/flasks before the raid and this has been my life for the last few months.  My first Wednesday in months and I got booted out.  I was raging.

Anyway it took a little convincing from Drew, Ben and Michael before I jumped back online as the guild was about to start G’huun.   Ben advised disabling all mods seemed to work wonders for him and Oui so left DBM running only and the game was playable without issue. Drew had suggested I disable all mods and that was just before my game went to the toilet on my heart so I didn’t have  chance to do it.

We were slapping him around with new friends from Resplendant and honestly we were doing pretty messy attempts.   We did get him to 2% with only tanks and heals alive.  No idea who was “leading” from the other guild – no one introduced themselves…. <glare> but he was pretty funny.  We had to stay alive going into the third phase and on this 2% I was the only one who actually died at the transition happened.  So it is pretty much my fault we didn’t kill him….I am blaming the healers though because well….heal me!!!

Sadly the heals were doing terrible DPS and couldn’t make up for what would have been my amount :p Unbelievable!!

Then of course, on our very very last attempt of the night, he died.  Ahead of the Curve; yes please!

I actually managed to stay alive until he was at about 2% but I had managed to back myself into a corner with the pizza phase and it just meant I had nowhere to run when I got a few effects at once. I was so annoyed with myself.  Chris and I were running balls again and doing well at that, we have a pattern and we rock!  Some might say we were cutting it close to the new raid being released but now we can spend sometime just getting clears (if people are around) in preparation for the new raid – I would love to get my gear better before we go into the new area.

Thanks to the filthy mouthed Resplendent guilds telling us to stay alive and for the healers to heal people :p;  it was an enjoyable night from about 9pm onwards….but not before.
