Shared Topic: WoW Soundtrack

Saga from Spellbound has asked everyone what our soundtrack is for the Shared topic this week:

Your WoW Soundtrack

The WoW in-game music is awesome, but there are times (at least for me) when I’m listening to my own music instead. Are there any specific songs that you connect with WoW? Whether it’s tied to your own characters in some way or simply because it reminds you of WoW. Please share!

Given the immense diversity we have in game I find this an absolutely divine topic!  I get to brag about my favourite bands and potentially find more! Definite Win Win!

When I first started WoW I listened to the amazing soundtrack and the noises that were already in game.  They were delightful, then I started raiding and needed things like vents etc – so I turned down all the sounds except for the character noises so I could hear if anything procc’d and also to hear what was going on in vents.

I still haven’t gotten out of that habit to a certain extent, however I tend not to sit on vents unless it is an absolute essential component so I do have the chance to listen to music a little more.

I had never really thougth about having music playing in the background until one video on youtube – which is damn old now….and the audio has been disabled on youtube now so there is not much point in linking it 🙁  However it was a Mindless Self Indulgence Song called “Straight to Video”.  I had never heard of MSI and I had not given much thought to listening to music whilst playing WoW….it just wasn’t something I did prior to that one video.

All I have done since though, is listen to everything and anything to see what works with whatever I am doing – and in my mind I always think about what it would look like to someone watching as a video.

I have found my preference when raiding is the good ole fashion Symphonic Metal – Within Temptation, Nightwish, Nemesea – are the three bands I am generally listening to in the background when raiding.  There is something so satisfying about it when the boss is killed 🙂

When I am questing, I prefer something a little less intense but still upbeat – Anberlin, Lacuna Coil, Delain and general rock (ala nickelback or Avril Lavigne stylings).

When grinding/farming – I much prefer something I can sing along with and keep me going – please don’t stop visiting my site!!!   – I listen to the Glee soundtracks (when hubby isn’t home; of course!!) and sing along at the top of my lungs!  If hubby is home and sitting behind me – it is generally Michelle Branch, Katie Melua or Amici – or even some classical music like Four seasons etc.

I know I have pretty eclectic tastes in music, and I think it is great  that I do get to mix them up based on the activities 😀  I think discussing music in game is awesome as I have started listening to bands I probably would have never even thought to listen to.

Anberlin and 3 days grace were suggestions made to  be my other guildies at some point – bands which I now love and adore. Thanks to that video and my hubby downloading the MSI album I now like them a lot as well 😀  So, I can’t wait to see what everyone else listens to…

  1. I can relate a lot here.

I am one to have always had the in-game music/sound as a priority. Only ever turning it down enough to hear vent and such.

Let me guess what video you found MDI from – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p1_8yyHj0o&feature=related – 4.45 it starts. (Not original author)

If so, then join the majority of us that did. Liked them since. With that, most of my favourite bands come from WoW movies. Mostly PVP ones. In fact, it introduced me to Rock music, and many other genres, as a whole!

Now, until I have played particular content a few times, I will refrain from putting music pn. But once I’m visiting an area/zone or doing a particular activity (dailies) I may allow myself to plonk on iTunes 🙂

Interesting post. I also found Three Days Grace through various movies!

    1. Gah!!! That video won’t load on my iPhone! I shall check it out when I am back, however it was a video showing of gm powers from memory???

I am the same regarding when to start playing my own stuff – you do get to a point where you have heard some stuff enough that you can move on.

Movies are also my other source of new music – soundhound is a damn saviour now! Hubby and I are constantly using it to find out what bands are what 🙂

      What’s your favorite band find?

      1. It certainly is! See, I knew it XD

Hmm.. I quite like Static – X at the moment. Found them in Need for Speed Underground and some WoW PVP movies haha!
