I really suck at kiting…

I think hubby and/or I managed to cause both bad and good in raid last night…..someone was asked to sit out and he was not impressed; his dad was going to sit out so he could come in, however the gm/rl basically told everyone that people needed to rotate and he needed to just accept that.

Once again I was reminded of the drama involved in running a guild with people who are only focused on themselves and not wanting to share it around…i know I know, we have only been back 2 weeks – but we have spent a lot of time getting ourselves raid ready. So much in fact, that comments were made at the end of last night about our gear improvements and behaviour…ilevel 356 for me and 358 for hubby….

Anyway to the whole kiting issue…..yeah….never been to new nef before and was asked to kite the mobs with the hunter….fail Mage incoming…arc spec 1and fire spec 2… Equals dead mage with very little slowing skills. A couple of times I managed to get the kiting happening but honestly not well enough for my liking. If I had known I was going to be kiting I would have changed my offspec in preparation but I didn’t know and was then told during raid that I should have frost; in a tone that implied I should have known that as a Mage I couldn’t kite in arcane…..all well and good if you know beforehand….all the strats I had read suggested plate wearers would grab the mobs or everyone helps in the control of the adds…so I was not at all prepared to kite….

I then mentioned it in raid chat – was ignored – and then on mumble (vents) that it wasn’t working with me, my hubby the SP took over my spot and proceeded to mind flay and shield himself…..bastard……

We got him to 45% on our last attempt and they will be going back in on Thursday I believe….I am not sure if we will be welcome back though??? Hehe I was hitting about 15k on stand and kill trash and I was on about 12-13k on the alarm bot boss….errr….can’t remember his name…..a bit lower than I would like but I will have to check out my stats in world of logs before deciding if that was correct.

Hubby uses recount and i use skada and we never have even similar results ๐Ÿ™‚ its kind of annoying really ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes raiding is fun. Drama is bad. Can I really be bothered with the latter to do the former?

  1. Sounds like you had a pretty good run all in all. Arc mages can kite, it just takes practice. Being talented in to slow makes it possible for us to kite fairly well. Your dps seems pretty good as well. You might have been lower then you would like, but you should be pulling 12k on bosses minimum. Others might have been far higher, but you also have to account for the fact that they probably have much better gear then you do since you did not play for awhile.

It’s really hard to void drama in game. I’ve run a guild for 5 years now and I’m no stranger to drama in guild. But the goal for a good guild should be to keep the drama “behind the scenes” like in whisper. Perhaps bring these feeling to the GM if you feel you can and suggest something like doing stuff in whisper. You can’t be the only one that feels that way.

Don’t let them get to you. Remember that it’s a game and have fin with it. If there is too much drama and no way to avoid it, then maybe the new LFG (Looking For Guild) will help you find something that fits better.

    1. Practice being the word there ๐Ÿ˜€ I levelled frost then decided after doing some reading that arcane was the spec for me (I spent most of Wrath as Arc and the game play hasn’t really changed all that much) so I am not practiced at kiting much anymore…I think Kara was the last time I kited anything….yeah..that’s a long time ago ๐Ÿ˜€ But I am going to play a bit more with it this week anyway and see if i can’t improve that.

I came back to the game simply with the “it’s a game” mentality – I am not making this my whole world anymore…just a way to waste time and take my mind of RL stresses. It really does make it much more enjoyable.

  2. I know it’s tough sometimes. I guess it boils down to how much you feel you can and should put up with versus how much you enjoy raiding. And it you really enjoy raiding and your present guild gives you too much drama and grief, then personally I’d start looking for a new one. I agree with the other comments here–it’s just a game. Keep it fun for you.

    1. Definitely just a game – and I am not really going to get upset by a 15 year old having a tanty…I am too old to let that worry me ๐Ÿ™‚ But I learnt from my mistakes in the past and I will most definitely not be hanging around once I start feeling annoyed…honestly it was more of a giggle…

  3. Kiting is difficult to begin with, let alone in a stressful environment.

Any guild will have some sort of drama, unfortunately. It’s how people handle it that will make or break a relationship.

  4. Nail on the head there Corath – it’s all about the reactions. I shall see what happens over the next couple of raids….can’t wait to head back in there now that I know the fight – I shoudl be able to kite like a skilled person :p
