Shared topic 42: What is your favourite role and why?

This week’s topic from Z and Cinder is a nice one:

Do you love being the shield that protects your group, or the damage dealer that melts the mobs before you or the healer at the back shaking your head at the people standing in fire and giving you something to do?

We’d also love to hear from you if you play a different MMO or one that’s not built on the WoW trio model.

I find it hard to choose between tanking and DPS.  I adore playing caster DPS and doing damage with spells. I like being able to burn, freeze, lightening and thunder my way through mobs.  I love collecting massive amounts of mobs and then AOEing them down. I feel powerful and awesome.  Any type of RP game I play I fall back onto playing a range caster – mage/wizard/sorcerer etc. Anything which allows me to just kill things. I like big spells with big numbers.

I temper that with my complete love of tanking. Mainly Guardian Druid form because I am bright purple and brilliant and who doesn’t love a bright purple bear saving them from destruction?  I tanked briefly through another raid period..maybe Ulduar? and I liked it then as well but the stress levels are way higher than DPS. If you miss a cooldown it could be the end of the raid or group but that is the limit of the stress. I never really struggled to get and maintain aggro, I always seemed to manage to pick up mobs easily enough, however my issue has always been learning to control my urges when tanking different things.  Tanking Mythics+ is different to raiding and I kept going into raiding and burning my cooldowns as though I was in Mythics+.  It caused issues when I needed a CD and I didn’t have one – I got better once I got my brain on board, but that was always highly stressful for me.

I would still be tanking except I cannot raid Wednesday and it would be unfair to the guild to try and keep that spot so I went boomy and raid Fridays only. One night of raiding kills me given it is mostly just a wipe night for me. I am not really getting the joy and satisfaction from it.

Screw Healing. You are all crazy. No way. Nope.Z

Shared Topic 40: Getting to know you

Oh, I am likely to read all these ones!! I love finding out about the people behind the blogs!

The current topic from Z and Cinder is as follows:

This lovely list of questions has been floating around twitter a lot recently, and we thought it would be a great topic challenge for everyone to get to know each other a little better. There are quite a few questions, so if you don’t want to do them all you don’t have to.

For those who prefer not to talk about themselves so personally on the internet (or if you would like an extra challenge!), our challenge to you is to answer these questions on behalf of your main toon.

So here we go!!

How do you drink your tea? White with one sugar

Favourite dessert? Cheesecake – any of them.

Favourite season and why? Autumn, my birthday and I love the browns of the leaves.

What cheers you up? Cute animal pictures, WoW, dash cam videos ( I love the swearing), returning military surprise videos.

Dogs or cats? Both – honestly I would have both for various reasons.

What is you dream holiday? Scotland/Europe

How many kids do you want? 0-1

Favourite weather? Rain/Storm

What would your last meal be? Takoyaki

You can spend 24 hours anywhere, any year, where do you choose? Fall of the Berlin Wall – November 1989

If you were a ghost, who or where would you haunt? I wouldn’t want to be haunt – I watch Supernatural – I would rather move on.

What is your family ancestry? Mum Kiwi and Dad Lebanese. I am dual citizen automatically for NZ and I can request it for Lebanon if I want.

What scares you? Spiders.

What are you most grateful for? My husband.

Dream job? Running an occult/geek store/cafe/space or travelling the world non stop and making money with blogging/photography.

Do you believe in aliens? Yes – we cannot be the only life that has managed to develop in the millions of years of the world.

Favourite Sport? Ice hockey

How do you relax after a long day? WoW or Netflix

If you could meet one historical figure, who would you choose and why? I have no idea. We don’t learn from our past so I am not sure why I would want to go backwards.

If you had to be a teacher, what subject would you teach? Life Skills – how to do a resume, attend interviews, understand taxes, open bank accounts, save money, address letters/envelopes, cook (meal plan/prep), laundry etc.

Describe your perfect date.  Warcraft and Chill with rum and coke and cheesecake.

Describe yourself in a sentence.  I am all the things people should not be.

Who makes you laugh the most? My hubby.

What Superpower would you choose? Teleportation so I could be anywhere in an instant (including places which contain money *grin*).

Favourite animal? Dragons – no one said they couldn’t be mythical!! Real one would probably be tigers.

Biggest accomplishment? I have stayed drug/cigarette/suicide attempt free for almost 15 years.

There you go – I think I answered them all, what about you guys, comment with your answers and check out some of the other posts on this topic as well.

Topic 39: What’s on your to-do list for BfA?

Z and Cinder bring us another topic for the fortnight and I honestly don’t know how well I will cope with this one.

Battle for Azeroth has been out for a few weeks now and while it’s still early days, there’s a lot of content for us to gobble up. What’s already made it to your to-do list to get through in the next couple of months or even next couple of years? We’ll check back at the end of the year, like we did in our Legion post, and see if your plans are still on track or have shifted slightly.  I know I have a massive to-do list already, so we’d love to see yours!

For our topic this week we are asking you –

What’s on your To-Do List for BFA?

Wow, so many things, just too many!!

  • Battle Safari (I have maybe 4 pets at the moment).
  • Pathfinder One (and Two when it is released)
  • Reputation/Questchain for honourbound reputation so I can open the Siege of Boralus dungeon. (Sloooooow going!!)
  • Level my Mage
  • Level Alchemy/Tailoring on my mage and Enchanting/Engineering on my pally/fishing and cooking on my druid.
  • Complete the Legion dungeon/raid achievements for mounts
  • Chase down some leather druid gear for trial of styles (I have so few items to use)
  • Complete some of the gear sets on my mage ( I have about 8 sets in which I missing single or double items only)
  • Level or boost an alliance toon to experience the story line from their side.
  • Level more of my battle pets to 25
  • Try the warfronts (still haven’t done the opening thing yet).
  • Mythics/Raiding

Topic 38: How do you level in Battle for Azeroth?

Z and Cinder bring us another interesting topic this week which you can find here.

Do you go about things your own way, taking quests as they come? Do you focus on just the main storyline? Do you go as fast as you can to get to maximum level, story be damned? Or are you the type of person who needs to clear every single quest from the map? Horde first, or Alliance? And in particular, have you changed anything about the way you level in Battle for Azeroth? If so, why?

I love levelling. Part of what I love about the game is the quests. The stories, the jokes in the quest text.  It makes it enjoyable for me and I could, if I am being truly honest, just spend the rest of my days doing levelling quests.  I don’t like questing with no reward – just doing it for money or rep. That is boring as heck.  I do wonder if a never ending levelling experience would really be that great.  Do I enjoy it because it does end?

Since BC, Moryrt and I have levelled together.  We take leave, we spend every minute online levelling and doing things together. It makes killing easier and ensures faster completion (in most cases) of farming quests.  I like to read everything the first time round so I can ignore them on the next toon and just whizz through.  I am a fast reader though and it can seem like i am not reading the text at the time.  Thank god the map has little blue circles for where you need to be or I might kill some of the people I have levelled with over the years who just get the quest and immediately ask what they need to do!  LOL

Since flying became tied to the loremaster and exploration achievements we don’t leave a zone until we have those complete and we ignore any other side quests until  we see that golden achievement flare.  At max level we come back for the extra cash and do side quests etc. It is simple but effective and ensures we are getting through the Pathfinder things.

I always levelled my mage first, this has been the very first xpac I haven’t. I levelled my druid first and I feel amazingly guilty about it.  I have started my mage but time factors will mean she takes a while to get done I think.  I had hoped to spend my weeks leave doing that but other things have kept me out of the game more than in.  You could say I am super annoyed about that in general.

Voila max level ding, we dance then start the long slog to heroics, gearing, raiding, world quests and whatever else Blizzard has changed about the game 🙂

Topic 37: First Impressions: Battle For Azeroth in Pictures

I realised I forgot to add what this post was about – like a twit 🙂  Z and Cinder’s blog challenge for those wondering!!  Here is the link to their post request!

First impressions count and a new expansion brings a host of new zones to explore and new NPCs to meet.  Come and share your first impressions or favourite locations you find over the first fortnight of playing by showing us your favourite 5 (or more if you can’t choose) screenshots.

First impressions.  Gorgeous. Lovely. Emotive. Wild. Strong.

I haven’t been all that far, but my god, this place is gorgeous. I can’t wait to get flying so I can take pictures from overhead or at better angles. Azeroth just keeps getting more beautiful. Is it because she is now dying and her essence is being leaked out into the world?

Keeping this one short and sweet because the pictures speak for themselves imho.

Topic 36: Farewell to Legion

Wow it has been a while for one of these. I was checking every couple of weeks so am super happy.  The end of xpac lull always makes it difficult to find things to write about so I am super happy I have at least 1 post for the moment, and fingers crossed other blogs to read it on.

_____________________________________________________________________

Part 1 – What were your top 3 moments in Legion?

This could be anything! We want you to take a moment to look back and think about what it was that made Legion a great expansion for you? Did you achieve something in game for the first time during Legion? Was there a quest line or NPC or zone that you absolutely fell in love with? Or was there a piece of music or a mechanic that you fell in love with. Share your favourites in this topic 🙂

Part 2 – What are you most looking forward to about Battle for Azeroth?

For this one, it’s time to look forward. Whether you’re Horde or Alliance, there is much to look forward to in the new expansion. This topic isn’t necessarily focused on zones or NPCs that you’re looking forward to seeing (though that, of course, absolutely counts and of course feel free to write about these!) but maybe it’s something more than that. Are there some goals that you’re wanting to achieve now that a new expansion is on the horizon? Are there changes coming to your class that you are really excited about?

______________________________________________________________

Part 1 – Top 3 moments in Legion

Definitely tanking. Just being the tank has been an amazing experience and one I do not want to give up.  If only my guild could change their raid days, it would make me super happy as I would be able to keep tanking.  I am actually really devastated I won’t be going into the next xpac raiding with them.  I hadn’t anticipated how much I would enjoy it.

I plan on tanking mythics still and my druid is likely to still be my main, so I will still get to see my purple bear 🙂

Ahead of the curve would be second. But that goes with the first 😀

Third would be getting the puzzle mounts – yes I know, I didn’t have to actually solve the puzzles entirely but I managed to get quite a few this xpac and I really enjoyed the running around with friends part of getting them.

Part 2 – What are you most looking forward to about Battle for Azeroth?

Levelling toons again. I really enjoy levelling and questing through content for the first 3-4 toons. I can just tune out, read what I need, farm the things . You can just be roaming around and dying because you forget you are not max level anymore and grabbing packs is not the smart way to get anything done 😀

I like seeing the new areas, appreciating the artwork. I take way too many screenshots at the start of the xpac because everything is so pretty and new and shiny!

I can’t ever seem to make it to the 5th toon. I wonder if that is because I don’t like the class as I generally level my fav 4 first.  Mage, Druid, Paladin, Warrior – then whatever I have next level highest.  I am stuck this xpac though as everything is still stuck at Drainor and I just can’t bring myself to get through it.  I might save up for my birthday and by myself some character boosts!  LOL

Shared: Topic 35: Your most badass moment in game

LOL

We have long been the heroes of our own stories in World of Warcraft. NPCs, both minor and major alike, remind us constantly that we are the saviours of Azeroth; that if it weren’t for us, the world would have ended if we hadn’t have defeated that boss, or killed that pest, or scooped up that poop. We are the stars.

For our latest topic, though, we want to talk about you, the player, and ask you:

When have you felt totally badass in game?

Did you kill a super hard boss that you’d been working on for a really long time? Did you have a near miss, and saved yourself from falling to your death? Was there an outfit your transmogged that made you feel super strong and powerful? Or did you do something for someone in game that made you feel great? Let us know! This topic is all about the things that make you feel good in game.

Coincidentally this happened only a few weeks ago.

But i can’t decide between the two events so I am going to tell you about both.

The first is when myself and Michael managed to down the last boss in mythic SoT from 40%. When we were doing it – if you listen to the video, I was sure I would die pretty quickly because of the increasing debuff. But what happened was I kept my cool, hit my defensive before the crap, hit my heal afterward and just kept moving the boss around.

I didn’t panic, i just did my thing. I doubt I could replicate it if I tried. I was just expecting a massive hit to happen that would wipe me out. I felt pretty amazing as a tank to be honest.

The second event was completing Heroic Argus and getting the ahead of the curve achievement. I still feel pretty amazing every time I remember that I helped tank our way through the content. The guild was already half way through Heroic when I started so I really only did 50% of it. But it feels nice to know I contributed. I felt pretty badass.

Of course all of this means nothing though because I was told that tanking on a druid is like winning gold in the special olympics because it isn’t how I tank but everything else making it easy. (Save the disability rage btw – it was a stupid comment by a colleague and I am fully aware!). So now I feel a little like my gorgeous flexing biceps are deflated balloons. I also wasn’t there for the night the guild cleared heroic in one shot AND killed Coven for the first time – maybe I hold them back more then help!

Cest la vie right?

I started out feeling awesome – so let me just remember the good times!!

Shared: Topic 34: What is your favourite pop culture reference or easter egg in the game?

It always brings a smile to my face when I stumble across a NPC name or flavour text that points to a show or person I recognise from the real world. It also makes me wonder how many more there are that I’ve missed.

For our latest challenge topic, we want to know:

What is your favourite pop culture reference or easter egg in the game?

Ok, so I may have cheated a little with this one.  When you have been playing the game for so long there are always things you forget about.  Whilst trolling through sites trying to remember what easter eggs are even in the game, I found this page which lists a fair amazing amount of them. It is actually pretty funny just reading through them, sort of like remembering old friends.

However the ones I really remember enjoying at the time were all the Firefly related ones, so much so I levelled my shammy about 5 level farming for the pet.

  • In Zangarmarsh, the engineering Grandmaster K. Lee Smallfry <Grand Master Engineer> is a reference to the character Kaylee Frye, the engineer on the show. Her dialog includes the word “shiny”, a common adjective for “good” used on the show.

  • The non-combat pet [Captured Firefly] has the flavor text “Still flying…” which is a line from the show.

  • During Brewfest, one of the beers you can purchase is Mudder’s Milk, which is from the episode ‘Jaynestown’.

  • The reagent vendors in Ogri’la and the Lower City are named Mingo and Fanty, after the twins who engage Mal to perform the robbery from Serenity’s opening sequence. While these characters in turn are references to thugs from the 1955 The Big Combo, the NPCs more likely reference the former.

  • [Strange Engine Part] and [Broken Engine Part], which are fished randomly from pools of Steam Pump Flotsam in Zangarmarsh, bear the description: “It reads ‘Capissen 38’ on the bottom.” This is a reference to Kaylee Frye’s line in the film “Serenity:” “Don’t ride in anything with a Capissen 38 engine, they fall right out of the sky.” [Strange Engine Part] starts an Alliance quest that you turn in to K. Lee Smallfry.

  • In the Sun’s Reach Harbor, the Innkeeper Caregiver Inaara <Innkeeper> is a reference to the Companion character Inara Serra, a character portrayed by the Brazilian-American actress Morena Baccarin. Her face and outfit looks also very similar to the series’ character.

I didn’t know about this one from the list:

Robin Hobb

  • The name of the tauren at the Nesingwary Safari in NagrandShado ‘Fitz’ Farstrider, appears to be a reference to the character FitzChivalry “Fitz” Farseer, and possibly also to his mentor Chade, from Hobb’s Farseer Trilogy. In addition to the similar names, Shado wears a wolfshead helm, and FitzChivalry was bonded with a wolf. (As possibly more of a stretch, FitzChivalry was a Wit or “beast magic” user, and seen by some as half-man/half-beast, a possibly fit description for a tauren.)

And as Robin Hobb is one of my favourite authors I am going to have to check it out again because I never made the connection. I might also have to pull the books back out now that I think about it.

On a more personal level the following one is really interesting:

H.P. Lovecraft

  • The Black Morass, an instance in the Caverns of Time set in what is to become the Blasted Lands, may refer to Lovecraft’s “The Call of Cthulhu”, in which Inspector Legrasse, investigating reports of strange rituals in New Orleans swamplands, is described to have “plowed on through the black morass”. The design of the zone itself closely adheres to Lovecraft’s description of the New Orleans marshes.

Drew loves HP Lovecraft and has always loved Black Morass. It was one of his favourite instances and always compares new ones to the love he felt.  I wonder if he knew of this connection (I am sure he did) or if this is just one massive coincidence for him?  I simply had no idea about the connection and it has me smiling!

I think my absolute favourite though has always been and will always be:

The Goonies

  • In The DeadminesEdwin VanCleef‘s pirate ship’s location inside a cave bears a resemblance to that of One Eyed Willie’s ship.

I had always felt as though that was what it was in reference to and Goonies is one of the best movies ever created (IMHO).  Of course the ships don’t look the same at all but it is a nice thought either way.

Shared: Topic 33 – Build your own achievement.

Been a long time since i have done one of these and am happy to be getting back into the Blogosphere. I have missed the community external to WoW and I am hoping to jump back in and see what is around. But let’s start with something nice and easy 😀 A topic I have no idea about :p

Welcome to topic 33 of Z and Cinder’s Blog challenge! Thanks to those who have liked and shared these posts. Remember, if you have a topic you would like to suggest as a challenge, please let us know!

Whether you’re a casual achievement hunter, or a dedicated “must have them all” achievement hunting superstar, there’s no denying the satisfaction felt when that achievement ding sounds. But is there something missing from WoW?

For our latest challenge topic, we want to know:

If you could add an achievement to World of Warcraft, what would it be and how would someone achieve it?
Maybe you’ve felt there’s an obvious achievement that should be in game already. Or maybe you want to create an intricate quest line for people to get a special reward at the end. We want to know!

For me the really obvious one here was class mounts. I would have liked a class mount achievement saying that I had it. Some were a lot of work to obtain and whilst I get the mount itself is the “WOO Factor” I was a little disappointed there was no achievement flash. Unless there is one for getting all the mounts on every class? Which I won’t get since I still don’t have every class maxxed out and am unlikely to do so for a long time, if ever.

I feel this is especially important for people who had really crappy class mounts <cough>  mages  <cough>   so we could at least feel we got something for the effort of killing hardish elementals.

This still makes me angry every time I look at it.

Or even Druids who get a different flight form but no real choice in the matter, what if I liked the old form better? Why no running form because I can’t use my class mount on Antorus it just seems like a waste.

They built up these mounts as well for months and each is so unique, I don’t understand why they didn’t give you an achievement for it. The storylines for them are all amazing as well. So much work went into them and then…you get it and you have a little scene and that is it. No reminder of the moment.

Shared Topic: Warcraft books/comics

So, I wanted to know if I am the only one reading the warcraft books/comics or if there are others out there for the shared topic this week from Blog Azeroth.

I managed to get my hands on almost every single book and comic (including short stories) for Warcraft and I have only just started to read them. I have spent more time trying to find an actual chronoclogical order of reading, than actually reading, but they all seem to be different. I am at the point now where I am just treating them all as single stories and trying to just read them as such.

I started with “Rise of the Horde” – loved it, I wanted it to go on much longer, reading about Durotan and Ogrim was so cool and obviously where the cities names came from (although the time line doesn’t go that far) and Durotan is Thrall’s father which makes it even more awesome.  I wish that book had a few more.

I then read the 5 books that form the Dawn of the Aspects, which was about the dragon aspects, so any book involving dragons had me hook, line and sinker.  It is about Galakrond and how the aspects became the aspects – Ysera, Nozdormu, Malygos, Nelfarion and Alexstrasza – it is pretty spectacular reading learning how they started out.  They are the guardians of Azeroth – everything stems from that book and it is both heartbreaking and inspiring.  I and am currently reading the first of 3 books for the War of the Ancients Trilogy, which as far as I can tell is about the first time the Burning legion attacked Azeroth and the Well of Eternity – I just keep imagining the instance whilst I am reading the novel.  I also started reading Vol’jin, but it wasn’t gripping me, so I left it and will pick it up later.

I have so many books left to read, plus the comics – I may be reading them for the next few months, but it is so awesome to know the names and places that are being referred to and then understand the characters more – like the complete back story being revealed.  There is something very enjoyable about it.  I can’t wait to get through more of the content!  If you haven’t read any of the novels, I suggest you do, it really does help flesh out the stories and motives of people and events.

I love this world, Azeroth, and so reading the novels brings more of it to life for me especially when I can’t be playing.  I can still be in the world reading and imagining the areas and feeling like I am in game. Go and get yourselves copies today! You won’t regret it!!

Shared topic – Mountable Mounts

This topic was brought to you by, me!!  YAY!!  [ insert ping back ].

One of the things I have noticed since my return is the huge amount of mounts available now through rep gains. I am still working on a couple, but it has made me wonder which mounts you guys are loving or hating :)

So what are your top 5 mounts – or just the ones you go to all the time because you like the way they ride? What are the ones you really dislike and can never bring yourself to use – does it rub against your collecting nature (if you have one) to buy all the mounts even though you know you will never use them?

The story behind this topic is quite short so, let me give it to  you.  I finally reached exalted for Golden Lotus and thought to myself that one of those sexy riding cranes would be awesome….so I went and bought one, awesome looking thing that it is….sadly..it is absolutely horrific to ride. The way it moves is just completely irritating, however, even after trying the first one, I had to buy the rest of them and try them, just to make sure they all sucked.  Yup, I could not let 2 other mounts be uncollected even though I hate it.   So who is the idiot who dropped 4k on mounts even though she will never ever use them?

WoWScrnShot_011014_143419

The only exception to this rule is the $14k mammoth.I refuse to pay that much money for a mount that I despise almost as much as the cranes.  I was so excited to get a mammoth, they looked awesome, imposing and just fantastic….shame that riding one made me want to punch my monitor :p I still love looking at them even now!

WoWScrnShot_011014_143141

I put the Elekks in the same group as mammoths, although not quite as extreme hatred, I won’t willingly choose to use them 9and I did buy all of them when I could).

WoWScrnShot_011014_143237

But in truth, I like more mounts than I dislike…I can never decide what to use, I need to download the addon that randomly chooses them for you, I loved always being surprised with choice.  But here are some pictures of my favourite ones. I turn to these guys all the time and really should give them a rest occasionally 🙂  Tigers/sabres are my absolute favourite, I was devastated when I discovered I couldn’t get one without being exalted – back in WoW, when getting exalted took the entire cloth supply of Azeroth!  Now I have many many many tiger mounts 🙂

WoWScrnShot_011014_143322

I also fell in love with this little beauty and did not stop until I had him…which reminds me I have so many more I need to collect at the Argent tournie still…but it just terrifies me!!

WoWScrnShot_011014_143358

I do love bears as well, I have many of them as well, I love the lop sided run they do…

WoWScrnShot_011014_143609

Of course anything draconic for flying…I have so many dragons I could not possibly put them all up, but here are my most treasured ones:

WoWScrnShot_011014_143510

I still want to 25 man version of the above one, but have a few achievements I need…maybe one day I will get them done…when I am level 100 and it is a cake walk….

WoWScrnShot_011014_143533

I adore the way the tail moves on this mount, it is very hypnotic, and the way the light changes the colours, honestly it is just amazes me at how beautiful they made them!!  I could go one…but I would just end up listing everything…Some special mentions have to go to the Talbuks…they are a very nice ride!

BA Shared Topic – Oaths

Shared Topic this week from Matty:

What vows would your character say, intend, or break, and to what allegiance? Would it be to class/race/specialization, deity, or ruler? This is quite a challenging Blog Azeroth topic, however, I know you are all up to it because you are amazing writers.

I found this one a hard one…many of my readers would know, I am not a very good writer, in fact I would go so far as to say I suck!!  Thinking about oaths and actually coming up with how to formulate those ideas into words was a struggle, however I believe I have come up with something that is only mildly crap :p

The thing you have to understand with my mindset about my toons is I don’t really care about the faction that are in.  If they are alliance, they hate horde or whatever the larger evil is (death wing anyone), and same with my horde toons, they typically hate the alliance.  The issue I have found is that my toons have been back and forth so many times in their life, I tend to just see them as their class and leave it at that.  I wrote some oaths trying to express how my main characters see their life and any oaths they may have taken to continue on their chosen path (horde or alliance 🙂  – yes I know a whole bunch of friends just screamed that I have to choose a side!!!)

My warrior has taken the following oath:
I pledge my life for yours to protect you from all danger and spill the blood of our enemies, before a drop of yours is shed. I shall honour our earth, I shall cleanse in the water, I shall breath in the air, I shall feast with our clan by the fire.  Always must I believe my shield is as important as my heart, and should one break the other will follow.  I am more than my weapon, and my scars will ever be a reminder of the trials we have suffered and the battles we have won.

My Paladin took:
The light shall absolve me; in the light, I shall triumph. Any pain shall be healed, any fear will be quelled. Within the light we will become one, our triple aspect becoming greater than any evil our world can attempt to destroy me with. Protection, healing and killing shall be my future with the understanding I must remember to always protect those who cannot protect themselves. This is my oath until the light leaves my body for the last time.

My Mage:
We bring the storms and we can bring the calm. We are the army that lights up the night sky.  Together we are stronger than man, demon or god.  The fire burns within us, seeking destruction; ice stills our mind, seeking the calm and the arcane flows through our veins; bursting with knowledge.  Seek the wisdom to defeat our enemies, create the balance in your mind and allow the fire in your soul to be shared with your allies.

and finally my Druid:
I am bound to the moon, as the earth is bound by the sun. I feel the turning of the seasons as one feels the rage in battle, all my forms are given to the service of the old gods. I shall nourish the earth as she nourishes me and I will fight our enemies without reservation if they cause damage to the land and the spirits which inhabit it. I fight for those who do not understand the ways of the spirit, so that one day the fight will no longer be needed.

I can’t wait to see more oaths!

Blog Azeroth – revamping

One of the things I missed the most about not playing wow, was the blogging community and BA with their shared topics.  Getting to read multiple blogs, find new ones and make new friends was not something I did as it just made my addiction harder to ignore.  So after a couple of weeks of playing and settling back into the game, I decided it was finally time to jump back on the forums and see where it was up to.

I was devastated to see that it was sort of dead…not many shared topics being done or many new posts…so…thankfully I am still a mod, so had some ability to go crazy :p  I have added some shared topics, in the hopes of sparking some imagination in others, so far I don’t want to have each week something I have posted, so please please please please please add some more so I can put them in between mine!!!

I also went ahead and created a FB page for BA…it may help keep people more up to date rather than going to forums, only because so many people are on FB all the time now anyway.  I am wondering if moving to a FB group might even be a possibility…??  For the moment, I just want to get the community more active again and see if we can’t get it hopping.

Please, if you love blogging and The Twisted Nether Blogcast, share the FB page, like it, comment on posts and add some shared topics to the main forums please!!  Let’s get involved with each other again!!!

Shared topic : head cannon

This weeks shared topic is brought to us by Akabeko at Red Cow Rise and it is a doozy!!

Canon refers to the actual events and characters that exist in a fictional world. Headcanon refers to any situations or characters that are imagined by fans of said fictional world. Sometimes they are silly, like the fact that Garrosh’s favorite treat is lemon squares. Sometimes they are serious, like positing that tauren store grief in the lungs. For my writing, I’ve come up with a lot of headcanon. Got a theory about a torrid romance between your favorite auctioneer and the patrolling guard? Given any thought to where mounts and pets go when they aren’t summoned? Do you know how your characters do their laundry, or what Baine Bloodhoof does in his free time? What are your headcanons, and where did you get the idea?

This is going to be a very long post 🙂 I have so much head cannon it will take me a while to post it all!  I am just going to talk about my personal characters because they are the people I spend the most time with.

So let’s start in order with my Mage 🙂 She was technically born in elwynn forest on a lovely rainy night. She was not supposed to be born due to her parents heritage – their love was forbidden – so she grew up living a nomadic lifestyle, moving from place to place, raised by many different aunts and uncles until she was old enough to strike out on her own.  She does not have a chip about this as she is well aware she is loved by her parents and had a fantastic upbringing.

Shared Topic: Flavours of WoW

Cymre asked a very yummy topic this week..involving Ice-cream!  Really, ice-cream and WOW in the one sentence 🙂  AWESOME!!!

It would not be uncommon to hear about the initial release of World of Warcraft as Vanilla or Classic. In terms of ice cream or gelato (which is my preference), Vanilla was once considered the most popular flavour of it’s time. So if Vanilla represents Classic WoW, what flavours could represent the following expansions?

I want to be able to change the flavour of Classic WoW as well, but alas I can’t 🙂  So with that in mind we shall soldier on!

Burning Crusade was a pretty good xpac, it hasn’t been my favourite so far, but it came in second which is why I went with Cafe Grande. It is a coffee based ice cream with nuts mixed in covered in chocolate.  It has fantastic flavours and a fair bit of crunch for the harder raiding, but overall smoothness of a great story and fantastic artwork.

Wrath of the Lich King was my favourite expansion.  I loved every single aspect of it, I levelled with my hubby and best mate all three of us in a group exploring and enjoying the stories.  I loved the Viking theme, I love the Ice theme, ICC was a fantastic end raid, Ulduar was also kick arse.  Dalaran was beautiful and I don’t think they could get it any more perfect if they had tried.  Wrath is cookies and cream by Connoisseur. No other brand will come close to the magic they have captured in that tub of perfection.

Cataclysm, was an expansion that felt like someone else had made it. To me, if felt like they had tried to capture the epic feel of vanilla WoW with some great added benefits and changed rules.  Whilst I can agree the world is much better now with the changes to questing and levelling, and things like LFR, I feel a little “meh” about the whole thing.  This is more my issue than Blizzard’s though as I left after just hitting 85 and came back too late into just starting Firelands to really enjoy it.  I did not get to work on my legendary, I did not get to do as many achievements as I normally would, I have done nothing overall this expansion that makes me happy.  For that reason I am making Cataclysm Boysenberry ice cream.  It will never be as good as I wanted it to be when I buy it, there will be too much Vanilla and not enough Boyseberry or vice versa. It will never live up to cookies and cream, but it can hold it’s own 🙂

Mists of pandaria, what an exciting time for us all, soon to be in the land of the pandas with completely new class and race combo once again, with new talents – no more cookie cutters?, no more big bad at the end trying to crush us all into oblivion.  This is going to be a peaceful expansion, an enjoyable jaunt through a new continent.  New pets and mounts and farming and so much new stuff I have no idea how i am going to be able to do it all!!!  It’s like an street fair with everything going on and you can’t decide what to do next because you want to do all the things!!!  For this reason it is Cold rock ice cream for me.  I know not techincally a flavour, but I would use a Vanilla base and add in a little bit of everything I could – M & M’s, mars bars, gummy bears, snickers, snakes alive, coke bottles, tim tams, jaffas…anything!!

So check out the other bloggers views on ice cream, I think we all need some now after reading through all these posts!!

Shared Topic: Lifechanging?

This week’s Blog Azeroth Shared Topic is suggested by Effraeti.

Very simply:

How has WoW changed your life?

Oh, you wonderful woman for suggesting such a topic, this could be a horrifically waffly post, which I love doing 🙂  There may even be pictures involved if I can find them 🙂

I have been trying to write a post for the last 3 days about how wow has changed my life and I am really struggling to put into words the changes. How can I describe the sense of achievement I get when we kill bosses, the feeling I am contributing to something with others, how do I explain to you the friendships I have built and am building every day with new people who are fun and interesting and worthwhile?

Is it even possible to put into words the comfort I get from throwing fireballs with my bare hands at huge ugly mobs when I am having a bad day, or the overwhelming pride when I kill someone in PVP before they kill me and recognise that I have actually improved my skills, or the enjoyment I get from reading and improving my character in game.

Wow has changed me in so many ways, and I don’t want to sound like a primary school teacher here, but it has taught me a lot about team work, co-operation, dealing with difficult personalities, enjoying my ability to find information, making friends – the list is endless.  I just wish it could change my temper, although it seems to be one of the few things that sets my temper off, well not the game but ignorant people 😀

I am still learning things every day and WoW is still changing my life, not just through the game but through the community.  Blogging, twitter, jogging etc have all shown me that there is a huge world out there of people to meet and things to do.  I hope WoW never stops changing my life because I could not honestly imagine waking up one day and finding it not there anymore.

Here are links to some of the other bloggers post, make sure you bring tissues – you may need it for a couple of them!

Shared topic: are you playing the beta

So, once again Frinka has suggested a topic for Blog Azeroth the week.

Are you playing the MoP Beta? Why or why not? How much time are you spending there vs. the “live” servers.

Like a few other posts I have read, I was dying to get a beta key, in fact it was basically why I joined the annual pass. It was the first beta for WoW I have ever received. I missed out on all the others.

When I finally got access, I spent almost a week trying to get the darn thing to download and when I finally had enough game data to play I jumped in – not caring that there was less functionality than a hole in the ground.

As most know, the crowding was insane and questing was essentially impossible, however with all things combined I wondered whether I really wanted to play the beta after all 🙂 solidified by people advising just recently they had to redownload up to 20gb again or something….I was very glad I decided to not bother.

So to answer the question, I played beta for about 30 minutes in total. I have since tried to avoid all the pretty stunning pictures and information about the quest lines. I want to experience it all fresh and free from subjective opinions based in the grumples in the community.

I am going to start investigating the raids though so I can plan a little better, but with just over a month to go, I am pretty excited.

So slack of me, but here is some link love for those who posted about this as well:

Shared Topic: Custom Fit Professions

Effraeti brings us a colourful topic on Blog Azeroth this week :

Professions are fun for some and a necessary evil for others.

Some of us have farming professions. Some of us have crafting professions. Some of us have a little bit of everything! Professions are leveled because they fit our style of play, help us in raiding, allow us to outfit our alts, and make us money.

What professions do you have on your main? Do his/her professions fit their personality? Why did you choose them? If you chose professions based on your character and not on gaming needs, would that change some of their professions they use?

(This can include the secondary professions of archaeology, fishing, cooking, and first aid too!)

Such a long and detailed post this is going to be, as you know, I never do anything by halves 🙂 Here is my story…
