The guild actually killed the Court last week, but I was not online for it as I was at home, playing (and losing) Harry Potter board games with friends.
So I was pretty excited when our next raid night we started a fresh heroic run and managed to get all the way to the Court again for this week. The fresh run included one Apophis all the way through which, poor bugger, he didn’t join us the week prior for our Lady Ashvane kill so had no idea what was happening when we started the fight. Ooops. He made up for it by doing great DPS. I also cocked it up on that fight, but then so did a few others as we had to have a few attempts on her again to get it sorted. I think that is going to be one of those really random fights; some weeks the coral and people will be placed well, others I think it will just be bad and cost us. This was our second heroic kill so I am not going to be harsh on myself or anyone else for making mistakes.
I was, however so ecstatic I survived the entire Radiance fight I even took a screenshot. Look!! here is me alive…and Radiance dead! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!? I even got excited over voice comms.
We didn’t actually struggle too much on Orgozoa, but we did have a few attempts, it is a pretty unforgiving fight for the tanks and it can take one tiny mistake for it all to go to the pits. But in Warsong style we killed it with only a couple left alive.
So the rest of this post was supposed to be about how we killed the court and zaqul….but then on our next raid night we were down two healers, a tank and a lot of DPS. So we didn’t end up raiding and I didn’t get an awesome post of boss kills and I forgot to cancel the post after the non-raid!
I didn’t want to raid this week given the current state of my brain, but I was online fiddling with my toon at raid time changing gear, getting chants (Thanks Oui) and pottering around. Anyway whilst sitting in discord I got outed by a few people about why I wasn’t in the raid, so I went along. I really just didn’t want to spend the night being told how we couldn’t kill a boss. So I just figured it was easier to not go. I play WoW for fun and to enjoy time with people who make me laugh, I don’t want to listen to even more negativity.
Either way, we took Apophis in as well as he the same ilevel as me and his DPS isn’t actually bad. So he got to see the first three bosses in heroic mode. He died on Radiance – but then….it is a super rough fight..so I sort of expected him dying somewhere along the way.
We struggled a little on Behemoth, not sure what has happening, but we wiped for the first time in a while on him and then even when we killed him it was a little messy. We did get him down though thankfully.
So we headed to Lady Ashvane, bane of our existence. We expected to be spending the night on her. But would you believe this.
We killed her. With our first pull. It was pretty impressive. I confess I had the absolute best attempt, I didn’t get briny bubble nor did I get the colour circled. I literally just stood there, avoided circles and DPS’d 🙂
We headed to Orgozoa, with the explanation from Queen Nelly of it being basically the same just everything hits harder and kills you faster. We wiped a few times whilst the tanks figured out their swapping and had a few mistakes etcs but we were getting it down pretty easily.
And would you believe:
It was a messy kill for sure, my death was in the last few % of health, annoyingly but I think it will work better next time.
Go us though, walking in an smashing through 5 bosses in Heroic and finishing early so people could go and PVP for the rest of the evening. I would have liked to have seen Queen’s Court for a few attempts but oh well. Grats the team though, was very happy to have killed 2 new bosses this week and I am glad I went. (Played Beat Saber for an hour after raid).
I still dispute calling her a lady when she looks like a monster and throws coral at us but she should be respected for her choices.
We actually cleared all three Heroic bosses without issue again tonight. I wouldn’t say they are on farm but we are doing really well. People are still taking a lot of gear with very few being passed off.
I died on Radiance because the squall happened and I couldn’t get through the swirling circle of death. I didn’t think I was far enough behind to not make it through with everyone else but it kicked me in the air and I got caught and died.
I hate that fight. Have I said it before? Should I say it again?
Tonight was our first actual night seeing Ashvane and I got pretty annoyed with being told we aren’t going to do it after 2 attempts because our DPS was bad. It very well might be bad, but we have had 4 attempts in total. 4. We need to learn mechanics, we have to work out what the heck is going on. Our DPS isn’t going to be top notch, especially for our guild of friends. We take a few nights to get the hang of the fight. There is no shame in that in my opinion, but it seems like some don’t like the effort involved.
Either way towards the end of the night we were getting the hang of the mechanics. We still had a few issues clearing the coral but we managed to get her to 20% a few times. The third shield phase is pretty hard to survive so hopefully a few more attempts and we will have it worked out.
I have to work out what I am doing wrong with my DPS because I should be putting out much better numbers than I am. I wasn’t moving particularly much but maybe that is enough to disrupt my numbers – I don’t know but it will require some research this weekend. I even told Queen Nelly to drop me as my DPS was bad.
Not us, we were blinded by brilliance. BRILLIANCE!!! I was all prepared to head back into EP and kick Queen Azshara in the face, especially since I finally finished the storyline to open up the raid but we started at heroic. First, spoiler warning – if you haven’t completed the scenario handed to you in Nazjatar, I am going to back track a little.
I only just completed the entire story thanks to my food poisoning, I felt well enough on Thursday/Friday to shuffle my way through it. I cannot express how this game makes me feel, suffice it to say when you get Baine out of the dungeon and Jaina and Thrall are standing across from Thunder Bluff wondering why they are working together because nothing changes and Jaina touches his arm and says, “We have.”; I lost my mind. Tears starting streaming down my face, I couldn’t stop them. This is not the first cinematic to bring me to tears (most of them do) and should the next xpac be about dragons you can bet I will be bawling constantly.
I started Alliance so I have a soft spot for Jaina as any long time reader would know. She was a mage, like my character, and she was amazing. Thrall was my second love when I switched to the horde and discovered his story and his deep sense of honour. They are my two favourite non-dragon historical figures in the Azerothian lore.
To see them on screen, fighting together to save Baine who also has a deep sense of honour and dislike for the way Sylvanas has been acting, my heart just couldn’t take it. Then after the scenario you head off to find the tidestone and once again work together with the alliance and whilst killing naga they are saying to each other how impressed they are with their fighting skills and had there not been a faction war they could have been friends. Oh my heart.
Anyway, after having done all that I was finally able to get to the raid without having to be summoned and I had a quest to kill the Queen. So I was super excited for raid thinking we would be going back in to kill Zaqul and her. Instead we did heroics and smashed Shivara and Behemoth (I have discovered I can use barkskin on almost every single shocking pulse if I time it just right!). We then did Radiance. I still hate this fight. I think it is stupid and has crap mechanics just to piss off any and every single class that needs to cast. I hate it. But on the more positive side Nelly has found a strat that seems to work when done correctly. Just keep moving when the whirlwinds get dropped, bunch into melee and stick together. It actually works really well if everyone moves when they need to. It removes a lot of the randomness of the encounter. Unless you get the bomb twice in a row and get too far from the group because you don’t get dispelled. Boo stupid bombs. Stupid fight.
So after just a couple of attempts. we killed Radiance in heroic!! We are now 3/8H!
We did also go back and do the other two in normal; I had to go down through the portals into the fear level for the first time on Zaqul and I pretty much just spent the entire fight going “WTF?” – I need a few more runs on that one before I will understand it. We also had an issue on Queen and wiped a couple of times but I am not sure what happened. I thought we had that one down, but it was just a little wonky. Either way we are moving through the new raid and getting gear – this is a win win!!
Let me start by saying, this happened in the week I was suffering from food poisoning. I had been working from home in an attempt to not take sick leave, my Dr later told me off for that and said I had to just rest. So my blog got updated instead 🙂 Food poisoning is not something I have ever had before, this has given me a new appreciation for anyone who has had to suffer through it. I want to just crawl into a hole and never come back out, providing it has a flushable toilet of course.
So on raid night I got a message from my Queen Nelly asking if I could tank. Feeling like death on a corndog stick I said sure, why not? I can give it a crack. Thankfully I still had my full weak aura tanking pack and DBM would let me know when I needed to do something I am sure. I had done all my raiding research as tank initially before Aaron returned so I wasn’t completely out of clues. I let her and Aaron know I might be a little slow due to the illness situation.
We managed to get all the way to Za’Qul (we didn’t get him down sadly but that was not due to any of my idiocies). Apophis also decided to come along and have a play, he had done LFR earlier in the week and so knew at least the first 3 bosses, I totally expected him to leave after we completed them however he stayed with us through them all. It was pretty cool. Now I just have to convince Moryrt to get back into it and my WoW life will be complete again.
Shivara – I kept forgetting to run the stuff out after Aaron taunted. I think I managed to remember on my own maybe 3 times. Like a dumb arse.
Behemoth – I let Aaron die by accident as I wasn’t watching his debuff closely enough and he took a hit he shouldn’t have.
Radiance – The most horrid of fights and we killed it, except for the one bit where I taunted the boss just as a whirlwhind got dumped on me and threw me in the air. EEP!!!
Ashvane – I had zero idea what was going on and just every time Aaron told me to taunt I did until he took it back 🙂 Solid theory.
Orgozoa – Thankfully (this one sounded horrific) it worked out almost perfectly that we taunted on 6 stacks and I had the boss whilst Aaron grabbed the adds. It made it super smooth except for the one time we got the taunts muddled and our stacks went to 9. Right as he transitioned, and me saying “Na, I am ok”. I died. LOLZZ
The Queen’s Court – I messed up big time with this one. On our first taunt swap I moved the boss and not ourselves. The bosses are supposed to stay in the same place and we just move. But now I am confused about how it should be done, I don’t get it. Ultimately we made it more difficult for the raid and the healers but we did kill them one shot!
Za’qul – All I did was make sure I was standing on Aaron when we had the blue connecting line and taunted adds. At one point I hit my taunt button and hadn’t even checked my target, then I freaked out – what if it had been the boss?!!?! Thank got it wasn’t!! We didn’t kill this one but that doesn’t surprise me – it is a confusing fight.
I didn’t bother getting any other images because I figured you don’t need to see all the same boss kills just with a purple butt! I did mean to get a picture with Apophis whilst on break but I wasn’t back fast enough from a sickness bout. There will hopefully be a next time.
Stupidly I also got too excited about having enough of the reliquaries so I clicked them whilst in tank spec…and not boomy!!! 🙁 booooo. I feel super stupid tbh. On the upside I tanked a crap tonne of bosses, made minimal mistakes, didn’t get too many of the raid killed and we didn’t wipe! Win win!! It was fun to be tanking it and next time the guild needs me will just be that much easier.
Guess what we did when we went back into the Eternal palace?
(Lemme just add a small note in here about the post delay. I had a hugely busy weekend which landed me with some Food poisoning. I have been barely able to function so I apologize for not posting sooner.)
Yeah we killed her!! Funny story though, a fair percent of people mentioned they were dreading coming back in for a wipe night on her because she was difficult to do. However the tanks confirmed their plans before we started and really got it pinned down, and then Slobaguts, our illustrious ex raid leader who deserted us but still comes back to hang with us occasionally, provided us with a new strat of just “burn, baby, burn!” So instead of messing around with the add phase and moving around, you basically just get the tanks to hold them while we focus boss and kick her into the next phase. Sploosh. I am pretty grateful to him as it only took us a couple of attempts and we had her like a good octopus soup!
Grats on clearing it in normal 2 weeks after opening! You guys are the heroes Azeroth needs right now!
Of course the next step was heroic right? That is what we are here for!! None of this namby pamby normal stuff (although, the gear is still great in normals!).
What was different in Heroic Shivara….oh you have to move or stop depending on your colour and the overflow has to be with other people to manage. Yeah just enough of a mental mindplay to cause me issues. I died early due to an overflow that I just didn’t click meant I had to group up with others. I was watching it on my screen and then I just, sort of….died. LOL Bad Boomy!
However!!! My death aside we did have to do this a second time anyway.
We then sauntered over to the behemoth and struggled a little on him. Only a little struggle though, I was having a nice relax in the deep tank flotation session. , It is stressful being a hero trying to save the world after all!
In typical Warsong fashion though, we did manage to kill him with only Oui alive and the tanks. What you can’t see in this image is that Soulmend had been in his angel form until just before death so was providing just enough to keep them going. It has been a while since we killed a boss in “Warsong style” which makes me pretty proud of the team. But this was such a return to form I had to make comment. Well done Oui, Aaron, Laurie and Berin for reeling in the big one!
My screenshot folder is like a moving animation page of the hitpoints going down. I even made it into a small video for you so you could appreciate what going through my screenshot folder is like!! It is only 17 seconds long 🙂
I should also remind everyone there is a youtube playlist with our kills on there if you want to see how we do them from a monks POV, and sometimes a few others. I wonder if I should start recording as well so you can see from a bad boomy POV, but not sure I want you all to see how bad I am when I die to stupid stuff 🙂
Well done guys!! I can’t wait to see the Queen fall to us in heroic!! Only a few more to get through.
Our next raid night, consisted of a few old faces (mainly traitors) who we still love and a continuation of the normal Eternal Palace.
We started at Orgozoa and someone, or maybe multiple people, need to see a doctor about their problems with pulling early 🙂 It happened every single time we started an attempt, of which there was 3 I think? The tanks were having an issue with the timing of their debuff wearing off and adds spawning, but they got that sorted out after a couple of goes. I liked this fight, it was enjoyable, dodging the dripping slobber, running downstairs and killing adds. Another good fight that required some awareness and movement, but not so much you felt like you spent the entire time doing nothing. 5/8N.
The queen’s court, as I start typing this…I cannot for the life of me even remember this fight at all. One moment please……
[watches kill video]
oooooooohhhh now I remember. I had repressed the memory. The pain and agony of the mechanics in this fight broke me. The clouds of death need to be placed better or it cuts you off from the centre and the boss on the other side. This is just an entire fight of things you shouldn’t do and I didn’t like it. However, it was still better than the Radiance fight. Without a whisper of a doubt. We had to give this one a couple of attempts as well simply because of bad placement of the death clouds preventing access to the centre for Form ranks circles. I had range issues on the boss because I was trying to stand at max to allow more room for people to drop their death clouds in a neat row right in front so I couldn’t get through. It was yucky, but we did manage to get them down without too much hassle once we worked out the kinks. This will give me nightmares in heroic I think. 6/8N
Next was Za’qul. What can I say about this fight except “eep”. This was horrific and let me start by saying I wasn’t given a job, so I literally just had to stay at the top and DPS boss, adds and avoid tentacles – it was horrific even at that level. I cannot comprehend what everyone else was going through in their relevant phases/dimensions. I also feel like there is no way this fight will ever get completed in LFR amirite? I think it was a well designed and interesting fight but I am worried about having to learn all the sections over time. So if someone is away that usually does part 1, someone else has to learn it and potentially mistakes will be made etc. But hey, let’s cross that bridge when we come to it right? We did eventually get this one down, it took a few goes, but we rocked. 7/8N
Only one little boss to go for normal and then we can focus on heroics – which is the main thing for me. Am really quite proud of the guild, we have smashed through in one week (and a smidge). I would have liked to have cleared normals again as the gear it still being taken by people (when they are lucky enough to get any). They were 415 pieces dropping and I don’t want us to be pushing into heroics which clearly require a higher ilevel than a fair chunk of us have.
We walked back into a raid for the first time in months and I almost lost my mind from excitement. I really can’t handle how much fun I have being with a group of people trying to topple big baddies. It is the same rush when we are fighting baddies in DnD. I just love the challenge and team work that comes from working together. I do love a good co-op game.
So a little backstory, I was going to tank as one of our tanks had been MIA, so I spent a bunch of money and brain power getting everything kitted out for tanking. I even downloaded weak aura alerts for the taunting mechanics -I went full purple bear arse mode.
Then he came back online a couple of days before raid opened and I went back to DPSing… <boooo> I don’t mind at all though, I am just happy to raid and I was going to tank because I enjoy not having to worry about numbers. Now I have to compete with Nelly who kicks my arse on DPS and I suspect she could play with her toes and blindfolded and still beat me. I need to get better…tanking is so much easier 🙂
Anyway the first issue was the large toilet boss. I couldn’t get into the raid because I haven’t done enough of the storyline. I suspect the scenario I am yet to do (at this stage) will be the key turning point for that. It was ok once I was summoned in though. Phew.
The first boss we came across was Abyssal Commander Sivara, Nelly gave us a brief overview, like 6 dot points. We went in and we smacked it 1 shot. Not too shabby for a bunch of people who haven’t raided for a few months. Not overly difficult, the videos make it sound more complicated than it ended up being, so it will be interesting to see how much it amps up in Heroic. Enjoyable level of things to keep a watch for and move around but not overly punishing. 10/10 would fight again happily.
We were meant to head to the Blackwater Behemoth next but took a wrong turn following the tanks somewhere and we ended up at Radiance of Azshara. -30/10 want to do this fight ever again. Ever. This was a stupidly designed fight. We had about 3 attempts on this one and on all three attempts I spent 95% of my time running away from the swirling clouds of death and yet other people barely moved at all. It is like they came for me every time. The phase transition requiring people to pop a bubble always went horribly because instead of popping one, 2 or 3 would get popped and tornados were going everywhere and I would always get caught. I was so annoyed by the end of the attempts. I would have had better DPS by knitting a jumper for a cat with 15 legs. However we did eventually kill it and the boss is very awesome looking with the purple glow. 2/8N – kicking butt.
We found our way through to the Behemoth after killing the radiance, from light to dark. Some people may or may not have forgotten to get the water breathing buff…and it was not me. I just couldn’t find the damn repair bot which I heard get put down but wouldn’t cog until I stood right on top of it. Something weird happening there. everyone laughed at me. But I swear it wasn’t visible.
This was a fun fight, requiring specific timing for healers, and the DPS on the pufferfish but overall enjoyable. I found it difficult to determine the edges of the jellies, however I didn’t get stung so I must have been doing ok. We gave this one a couple of attempts before his light went out. Not overly horrific in normal but definitely enjoyable, not sure how much harder this will be in heroic, but it makes me nervous thinking about it. 3/8N
Finally we went to Lady Ashvane. I am not sure how we determine she is a “Lady” but if that is her preferred prefix, we will roll with it. Who am i to judge her? She was way easier than I anticipated. The worst part is getting the icons over your head and ensuring you can get to the coral in time to destroy it, but really this was a bit of a cake walk. Toblerone cheesecake. 4/8N
Nibblepie passed over two pieces of gear to me, one upgrade and one tanking set piece (not brilliant but better than what i had) and I gave him a piece of gear in return…at least, I attempted to because it was crap but because it was a higher ilevel I couldn’t pass it over. Worst loot system ever invented. EVER!
Pretty good night for our first walk through. #pride
