The Xpac Killer

I feel they need an actual name. Like The Punisher or Green Goblin.

Xpac-in-ator….The Destroyer of Raids….

The boss who comes in early, can’t follow the timers in DBM and then causes wipes randomly throughout the attempts.

Worst designed boss ever….or maybe it is brilliantly devious?

Since the announcement we have managed to pull together a handful of raids for Antorus. We just don’t have the numbers since getting the achievement/mount and full clear. We have had people move onto new guilds as well <cough> no comment <cough> and desert those of us left behind 🙂

I haven’t helped that with my new job, I am getting home at about 7pm and shovelling food in and then realising the time 7.20pm and then freaking out and running upstairs to log into the game.  Only to find like 4 other people on. Ooooops!

I don’t mind it to be honest, it gives me a chance to settle into an entirely new routine.  To be fair I haven’t even been online in the last fortnight either. I am just tired and having to tank mythics/raids is extra tiring and I need to pay attention to all the things.

I am hoping to get back into it this week though, I have a bucket list I would like to complete and I would like to help guildies complete things they have on their bucket lists.

I am week 3 of the new job so I am starting to feel like the routine is coming together a little bit.  This makes me happy and allows my energy levels to sort of stabilise.

I do enjoy raiding. I love it.  But I am missing karate so much. I am still not sold on raiding in the new Xpac as I simply want to be doing my martial arts on Wed/Thurs.  Why does everything have to be on Wednesday  nights – there is also a Zumba class I would love to do as well.  Someone pick a fucking Tuesday please :p.

Anyway how are other guilds going at the moment?  Is raiding dead for you guys as well now?

Finally 11/11

It was a great birthday present if you ask me 🙂

Drew decided to stay home with me instead of go to karate and because we had massive dinner plans on the weekend I convinced him we should stay home instead of going out.  We did raid, which was also an awesome birthday idea and to top it off we killed coven, the last missing boss in my set.

Now to start on mythic…LOL NOT!

I also got a birthday cake during the raid which was super nice of Michael. It was very delicious. Ben wanted to be in the picture 🙂

We had friends joining us from different guilds again and it was really nice to be clearing content.  I told the team we had to kill coven as my bday present, maybe that gave them the extra boost to get it done.  LOL because yeah – I am simply that important!

It was pretty funny actually we had a couple of deaths towards the end and Nelly was “ehh just wipe it up guys” and (I have no idea who) someone said “but they are almost dead you sure you want to wipe?”.  Poor Nelly was so focused on bars and green swishes with little pink flowers she didn’t realise how close we were to killing it.

I also like to say that I save Shaetano’s life by realising they were on the fire boss. I was wondering how they managed to get her instead of Brian so was sort of just staring at the flames from across the room until my brain finally clicked that I needed to go and help!  ahahah  I think I even said on voice “hrmm, why do you have the fire one?” then proceeded to stand there for a little longer doing nothing.  It was pretty stupid of me.  Swapping went beautifully and all was well. We survived and I got my boss kill set.

It made me wonder what else I could clear on my druid for the sets. Far too many imho.

So I might start working on my mage instead 🙂  I have to finish Heroic Trial of the crusader – weirdly I am sure I have done so many times, Sunwell and Siege of Org in heroic – then all of the below. Then by the time BfA comes out I can start on the legion dungeons.  Some of the below I can get completed in one week I think. Except the LFR’s right – no way to go back and do them now sadly.

Shared: Topic 35: Your most badass moment in game

LOL

We have long been the heroes of our own stories in World of Warcraft. NPCs, both minor and major alike, remind us constantly that we are the saviours of Azeroth; that if it weren’t for us, the world would have ended if we hadn’t have defeated that boss, or killed that pest, or scooped up that poop. We are the stars.

For our latest topic, though, we want to talk about you, the player, and ask you:

When have you felt totally badass in game?

Did you kill a super hard boss that you’d been working on for a really long time? Did you have a near miss, and saved yourself from falling to your death? Was there an outfit your transmogged that made you feel super strong and powerful? Or did you do something for someone in game that made you feel great? Let us know! This topic is all about the things that make you feel good in game.

Coincidentally this happened only a few weeks ago.

But i can’t decide between the two events so I am going to tell you about both.

The first is when myself and Michael managed to down the last boss in mythic SoT from 40%. When we were doing it – if you listen to the video, I was sure I would die pretty quickly because of the increasing debuff. But what happened was I kept my cool, hit my defensive before the crap, hit my heal afterward and just kept moving the boss around.

I didn’t panic, i just did my thing. I doubt I could replicate it if I tried. I was just expecting a massive hit to happen that would wipe me out. I felt pretty amazing as a tank to be honest.

The second event was completing Heroic Argus and getting the ahead of the curve achievement. I still feel pretty amazing every time I remember that I helped tank our way through the content. The guild was already half way through Heroic when I started so I really only did 50% of it. But it feels nice to know I contributed. I felt pretty badass.

Of course all of this means nothing though because I was told that tanking on a druid is like winning gold in the special olympics because it isn’t how I tank but everything else making it easy. (Save the disability rage btw – it was a stupid comment by a colleague and I am fully aware!). So now I feel a little like my gorgeous flexing biceps are deflated balloons. I also wasn’t there for the night the guild cleared heroic in one shot AND killed Coven for the first time – maybe I hold them back more then help!

Cest la vie right?

I started out feeling awesome – so let me just remember the good times!!

Raiding: The struggle is real

Since we killed Heroic Argus, we have barely managed to scrape together a raid team.  We can get a group into the raid but we are super melee heavy and lacking on ranged, and also very few with crowd control to help on Aggramar.

What annoys me about this is that Blizzard have been going on and on and on about trying to make it so that you can take whatever class you want and “play what you want”.  Yet, they make boss fights which require you to have a specific class make up to actually complete it.  However I was discussing this with Drew and he said their defence will be that you just have to work out another strategy to kill it with your make up.  After mulling it over on something like Aggramar, we use the stunning method, but how can you do it another way?  If you keep the big adds up and healed though all the little ones being popped (or half to cover the lack of full CC), the big adds would kill you.  No idea to be honest…Either way it is annoying.

I have been enjoying he raids that we have been doing though either way but it will be interesting to see what happens in BfA and between now and then leading into BfA.  We haven’t had a chance to get to Coven as yet, which is disappointing, but we shall see.

However in our last raid I wanted to show you this lovely exchange:

I was laughing my butt off and could not have made that happen any more perfectly. Before I rolled the second time I had already told him to take the item, but I sort of fell like Blizzard are watching us and messing with our head.

I did get to take my mage into an alt run which I was pretty excited about and I got some good upgrades on her. My DPS wasn’t brilliant, but it was not as bad as I had thought – the bigger challenge was doing the fights as DPS when I generally do them as Guardian.  I was changing between frost and arcane depending on the fight and it was fun having my weapons and gear be able to switch without too much fuss.  The current format for talents and switching is awesome, but it has taken a lot of AP to be able to get both weapons to  useable level and I am not even entirely sure they are even really that great.

My fingers are crossed tightly that over the next couple of weeks we can get a group together to kill Coven and some more people online to do the bosses again.  We have only killed Argus once so it feels a little like we need it another couple of times, it isn’t on farm.

Class: I miss my mage.

I made a concerted effort this time round to change class/role and try something new.  What this has made me realise is how much I love and miss playing my mage. Not sure what that means moving forward into the new xpac, but I have enjoyed jumping on her and doing the odd heroic/mythic/LFR. I still enjoy tanking and i adore my druid, but my mage…she is all I have ever known since day 1 and she is comforting to me. She is my happy place.

It was funny because Ben, Drew and I were discussing the desire of coming home to play way and when you are out how you want to just be at home playing.  Drew said he has never experienced that really except maybe in BC days.  Oui and myself though – feel it all the time.  Azeroth is my happy place especially thinking about tanking or my mage. I feel I need this Tshirt – one for every day of the week.

Her gear is currently at 927 and I have been building that up pretty slowly over the last few weeks. I would like to get her into a normal Antorus with Craig’s group on Saturday evenings and I found out yesterday min ilvl is 920. I would have gone yesterday but I had just completed LFR with Drew which means I wouldn’t have gotten any loot.  We weren’t supposed to be home last night for dinner  – but plans with the work people fell through at the last minute which was why we did LFR earlier.

Her DPS is pretty good over the last week I have been watching and the above was on a very good AOE/stand still sort of fight – I was surprised I could hit that number with the gear. So I took a screenshot! Who wouldn’t?  Ben didn’t believe me yesterday when I said mages were in a good spot, just shows another one doing over 2 mil, and I am pretty sure this was the one playing Frost spec.

This is a better representation of where I am sitting at the moment on my mage with her current gear in frost spec. A spec I haven’t played in a long time;  I was playing arcane for a little which I was enjoying as well and getting approx the same numbers.  The only reason I am in frost at the moment is because I am trying to get the hidden artifact – it looks amazing.  I will likely switch back to arcane once I have completed that achievement and confirm if the numbers are better or the same and then just pick a spec I enjoy playing.  I have a natural aversion to arcane because that was the only spec you could play for 2 xpacs and I hated being forced to pick a spec because of DPS/damage output.

In the LFR’s I have run I was managing to hold my own and I am pretty proud of that.  It isn’t brilliant, but a few more weeks with some gear upgrades ( I have a lot in the 880 space still) and a better choice of stats to work with and I will be begging to bring her to some alt runs with our guild if we ever have another tank 🙂 I was in the top 5 – 8 for the LFR we ran yesterday which is bad I know with those numbers, but the top 4 were always stupidly high…like over 1.5 mill type players.

Finally managed to get this achievement!  Every LFR for Antorus I have done has Eonar down already so I haven’t ever done it on LFR.  So frustrating. But I finally got it done!

A picture of me and Drew completing some story lines  😀

Raiding: Is it a wipe or a kill?

Woo!  Wooooo!!  You know what that means.  Epicness follows below.

Tonight started rough, we wiped a couple of times due to just random assortment of bad luck, but we improved dramatically on phase 3 with some better set up for adds. It was good to see it coming together. We got him to 4% and I swear it was almost as bad as seeing a 1%.  I was dead so this was the lowest I saw.

It was such a tease. We brought a few other people in from <Old Dogz> guild, I am sorry I can’t remember everyone’s names. We smashed it out a few more times and then BAM!

Ahead of the Curve: Argus

I haven’t decided if this was a wipe or a kill?  The only person “up” was Jason in non corporeal form.  This was at the end of the fight and not the end of phase 3 – I promise.  I have also just noticed whilst typing this, his title is Dragonslayer and I feel that explains why he lets me die maybe?  He dislikes dragons. Heartbroken.

I can’t believe we killed Argus, I can only assume DOT’s did it?

There is just nothing I can say that explains how excited I am about having that achievement. It has been a long time since I was raiding at any time or in any capacity to get the Ahead of the curve achievements.

On a selfish level, I never in a million years, thought I would ever be tanking with a raid team to the point of being able to actually complete content. Tanking has always been one of those things that I watched with awe. How could they do it, keep mobs, stay alive, watch aggro, taunt on time, stay out of stuff etc etc. I didn’t think I would ever be saying that I helped the guild achieve this. I mean they were mostly through the content, and I am not sure how much I have actually helped on some bosses, but it still feels pretty good to me.

There are few things I covet more in game than mounts.   Ever since we did the original quest in legion to ride one of these I said I wanted one.  I had to get it no matter what it took.  Thankfully it was a mount we could eventually get. Once you kill Argus on heroic or above you get The Blood of the Unmaker and all you need to do is hand it in to Khadgar in Dalaran.  He gives you the most beautiful mount (with the exclusion of Ashes of A’lar) in the game – the Violet Spellwing.

Here is a picture of the guildies on their mounts.  As the mounts don’t sit we had to take a flying picture. So much awesome in such a cool picture.

We attempted to get Fred his trinket from the Doggies. We didn’t manage to get that for him…again. We did the council without issue and then went to Portal Keeper Wankbalar.  God I hate him.  I try so hard to not stand in the green stuff and it just gets me like….1 time and it just kills everything.

The raid ended on a downer after that due to my idiocy.  Which makes everything I felt above dissipate into shame and guilt about being crap.  But then I looked at my mount and I felt happy again because I helped the guild get that mount and achievement.

We streamed the night again and still had no issues with my laptop or anything which I am happy about. I managed to put a little overlay on my chat window which Craig believes was crap….but like…my skillz aren’t leetzor dude.

Go guildies!!!!!  I am so happy right now 😀

Raiding: Heroic Argus

As you may be aware at the moment I am suffering a severe head cold. The type that makes your face painful all over with sinus gunk. I haven’t been at work the last 2 days and I wasn’t sure I was really even capable of raiding but I made an appearance because, well, aside from being an addict, I didn’t want to let the team down on progression night.

I confirmed with Chris if it was ok if I streamed the raid, for my literally zero followers, and assured him that should it affect my game play in anyway I would stop it immediately.

Brian logged on and advised that his internet was munted. 4000k latency. Possible fibre break. I wondered who my tanking buddy would be for the night especially on a new boss. Stupid internet.

I was asking who could tank in guild chat and Simon popped up and mentioned he could and if I am being honest that terrified me. Some people are just too good at this game. I mean on a basic level I was proud of my almost 13000k hp. He was over 13! I nearly cried seeing it! Why am i unable to get 2 pieces of gear replaced RNjeebus! Why?!?

I got super nervous about tanking with Si and managed to kill Chris on the way past with my fel bombardment but that was after Si sent me flying towards the boss with his first batch and it rattled me.  I am blaming him anyway. Then I was trying to avoid the green pathway of death and has to go out the other side instead of the normal but then had another pathway form right next to me and I couldn’t get out. It was ridiculous.

We headed straight to Aggramar to get him down again and it took a few attempts to get the adds right again. Once again spawn positions were a bit off so causing confusion.

Si and I were tanking the boss differently though in relation to the taunts which seemed better in my opinion.

Usual:

Mel: Foe breaker defensive
Brian: Rend with group.
Brian runs through and I swap with him to the group
Brian: Foe Breaker
Mel: Rend with the group

Last night:

Mel: Foe Breaker
Mel runs through to the group
Mel: Rend with group
Si: Taunts for Foe Breaker
Mel: Rend with the group

I found last night it meant the boss was moving less and it was easier to keep him in a central positon. I can’t be sure though did due to my headcold.

It was much better for the raid and ranking imho. Anyway after multiple attempts and finally a decidedly enjoyable kill (all being streamed with zero framerste issues on my laptop to record breaking viewer numbers of zero!) we headed to Argus.

I stopped and started the feed again so the video was split betwen the two events.

Argus is one of those fights where you want to be confident you know what you are doing and you feel ok but then it does something and you are all WTF?!? in the moment;

Thankfully as tank, in the first phase nothing much happens,  we taunt, we swap, we get the buff and drop it in the completely wrong spot for the DPS. There was some issues with the third cone of death 💀 and the transition which was one of our stopping blocks. The second phase is ok just talking amongst tanks re the swap unless people (who shall remain nameless) run away from the great big glowing bear butt to die in a corner because they just weren’t paying attention. Third phase can go DIAF.

Grabbing the add with the little swords – which sounds so much worse when i say it like that – is nigh on impossible. I believe the term used last night by Nelly was “SURPRISE!”; I screamed after my add disappeared. I may have missed that bit entirely when watching the video.

The next time we got to phase 3 I was so diligent watching for the next spawn that I thought I had missed it even though it was hitting me because someone was calling out for aid!!

Or maybe I had the wrong add and everyone was too polite to say. You think I joke – it took about 10 minutes to give one piece of loot to someone as everyone was passing for the next person and going around in a loop 🙂

No matter though as our best attempt was 8%. It was pretty amazing. We will be going back on Friday to kill that bugger and hopefully I won’t be sick.

By the end of the stream we had a couple of people watching and telling me it looked and sounded ok – so if it goes well I might continue doing it 🙂

Raiding: Heroic Aggramar

We decided to give Aggramar a couple of attempts and see if we could do him instead of Coven (the painful trio).  We struggled with the spawns, both location and timing of explosion.

It requires a lot of talking between people to ensure the adds are stopped until we need them. If we take 2 adds at a time it equals a wipe.  An add during the transition = wipe. Tanks taunting early = wipe. Tanks looking for spells = wipe.  Tanks lagging out during transition = wipe.

Yup. I am having lag issues. Only the last 2 weeks though for some reason. Maybe someone is staying in the hotel and chewing the bandwidth of an evening, no idea but the internet has been lack lustre.  I am blaming Brian for the other ones :p

This was a constant state for the night. It felt almost like we were flogging a dead horse, like Brian on his, for most of the night:

Eventually though, we got the adds worked out, we got everything moving smoothly and I lagged out at about 9%. I was screeching like a banshee.  I finally managed to get back with movement happening and  taunted the boss to watch him die. I might check DMB but I would say maybe 30 attempts?

Really, killing a new boss in one night is amazing as far as I am concerned.  We did well and I was excited to have done it, one night is simply stunning.  We did go and have a look at the next one but for some unknown reason (I will look into why shortly) I kept being given the sky buff before I had to tank…it was just messy as heck.

Here is a video of the kill done by Michael our healer.

Raiding: Heroic Varimathras

So we managed to smash this one in the face with relative ease.  I say relative because it was me causing most of the mess with trying to get into the right position to avoid double misery.  My initial attempts were mediocre at best, however I was taunting too quickly  – possibly – I am not 100% sure this wasn’t just me standing too close to Brian our MT, then not quickly enough on other attempts and Brian was copping another fist to the face with no ability to heal. GAHHHH. Nightmare material.

After an entire night (what felt like) of wiping because I just could not get into the right position, we decided to call for back up.  A far more experienced and skilled player popped into the run, set up these markers, said “Stand exactly there”. These are the very specific points on the ground we are supposed to stand.  I jokingly said we need to never ever forget those exact positions – i was so serious I even took a picture.  Yes I did.

Would you believe it!! We killed the demonic hellbeast.

Honestly, such an easy fight once you get the hang of it, but so much focus as he likes to trick you into thinking you need to taunt but he casts darkness instead.  Smarty pants.

Here is a video of the kill from one of our healers :
