Running LFR

There are two fields of thought on this:

1: Blizzard heard my screeching in guild chat

2: Running content is the best way to get that elusive orange gear.

Which do you think happened?  It wasn’t getting a direct message from Ian H providing me with the juicy stuff let me just say!

But I did manage to get my first whilst running LFR the other night.  I should start by explaining my husband had to go overseas for work – for 9 weeks, so after dropping him off at the airport (at about 1pm) I needed a distraction because I was not coping with the tears or the waiting to hear if he landed and got to the hotel ok.  In the end he called at 2am my time. So you can imagine how exhausted I was and how much content I had gone through by then.

I started with Gul’dan (I signed up for 5 LFR’s this popped first and would not have been first choice!  heheh) which felt a little like I was going backwards with story line after this fight but ok!  I cannot imagine, in my wildest nightmares, what this fight is like on mythic, or even normal.  It terrified me in LFR mode.  We did wipe the first time, however once everyone was advised to focus down the adds it went much smoother the second time and I am pretty sure we only lost a couple of people.

As soon as this finished it popped me into Trial of Valor

I didn’t take a picture of the first fight but I really enjoyed it – it seemed to happen almost as quickly as it started so I assume that is a good thing.  Helya was a little more chaotic.  I had no idea what was going on, but there was a big feathery boomy DPSing like mental so I generally just followed them around and targeted what they did.  I died on trash though before the dog fight and discovered I could still attack it over the rocks if I jumped for line of sight after being locked out.  Helya did give me a cloak which was an upgrade!

Skorpyron was an ok fight – again over before it began really, I honestly can’t even remember much about it.  Chronomatic Anomaly was annoying (and therefore good) as all heck.  Never has it taken me so long to cast anything in my entire life, I was just trying to get my pyro to proc as much as possible.  Trillax was an awesome fight – I almost got killed on one of the last pink beams of death because I got cocky and thought he would die faster than the beam would kill me.  I would not test this theory out again.  Just avoid the stuff.  It is safer.

The next one to fall to my mad quest for distraction was Tichondrius.  Also a hectic as anything fight which made little to no sense, but all I did was kill adds and then attack boss when I could.  I didn’t mind it for a fight, I can imagine it being painful in normal/mythic without a bit of focus though.  He dropped me a tier piece for my shoulders “Mantle of Everburning KNowledge”. SQUEE!  They are very pink, doesn’t go with the fire mage inside, but I will cope!

Krosus will always have a place in my heart because he finally gave up the lovely orange loots!  Yesss!!  My very first legendary was from an LFR run and not a world emissary quest.  I liked this fight, with the beams of death and the smashing of the bridge.  It wasn’t overly hard and I do wonder what aspects are in the harder versions which alter this significantly.

This final boss got me the Nightspire achievement.  Another fight that I spent more time following a boomy around and killing adds than actually being on the boss, but these fights seem that if you don’t have some focus you quickly get overrun with extras and it goes pear shaped very quickly.  I don’t mind being the support DPS as I was not anywhere near the top on meters – and ultimately I don’t even look for anything other than to make sure I am doing better than last. Especially given how behind I am in terms of gear (sitting on 860 now I believe) and comparing to groups of people with much higher ilevels is just lunacy.

The last boss I did was High Botanicst Te’larn, at this point it was about 8pm adnd all the parents had started to call to find out if I was coping without hubby and so it was just getting annoying trying to do 2 things at once.  As it is I don’t really remember this fight as I was dead for 80% of it, I got ressed at some point and then just button mashed until the end – which was about 30 seconds.

I decided I had had enough at that point and stopped with the LFR’s. There is only so much speed running you can handle when you are not focused or giving everything your full attention.  I did enjoy all the boss fights though so I can’t wait to get back in there now that I have seen them and actually learn what I need to do a bit better.  How are you guys enjoying LFR?  Fun? Bored?

Pet Battles: Please tell me I am halfway?

OK, my respect for avid pet battlers/levellers has just sort of tripled over the last week whilst doing these achievements. I just want to crawl into a hole and never ever come back out! I think the hardest part is that I simply do not have enough pets high enough to do some of these battles, so my kills are very messy and not at all what you would call – solid?

Flying by the seat of my pants comes to mind quite often, however I have conquered the Pandaland trainers!

Some of them were pretty easy, others were so RNG dependant that I was losing my calm quite significantly. Especially on Aki, one of her pets on one attempt crit mine for its full health.  Dead. One Shot. Unhappy!

I did start to use lower level pets on some of the tamers here, anything from about 22 upwards on some fights,  just to get them a little xp, every little bit counts I guess!  I was so happy to finally have Tamed Azeroth as well! Pretty sure this got me a title of “Tamer”, I probably won’t ever use it but it is nice to know it is there. Maybe I should start randomizing my titles every day and just get some happening in rotation.

Aki also chose me – I feel very special, however I have a feeling she chooses whoever comes along her neck of the woods. Once you go and hand in the quest for the Panda land trainers you get 2 more give to you which I thought might take me a while.  The Pandaren Spirit Tamer didn’t take me long at all, I managed to down all 4 mobs quite quickly; the Thundering Pandaren Spirit requiring a few frustrating attempts, but ultimately he fell to my pets in a battle of epic proportions.

Once again I didn’t take any pictures or make any notes about the combinations I used. I feel really awful about that as it could have helped some people out.

I know that I have a roster of pets I seem to use constantly as follows:

  • Chrominius
  • Anubasith Idol
  • Unborn Val’kyr
  • Alpine Foxling Kit
  • Iron Starlette
  • Lil Tarecgosa
  • Onyxian Whelping
  • Rapana Whelk
  • Dancing Water Skimmer.
  • Gilnean Raven
  • Fel Flame

They are pretty much mix and match for most fights, I tend to use some for just brute force when the “strats” just aren’t working and mostly they get me through depending on the mix needed. Like I said, they are not pretty battles and I think some people would be surprised I can make it work, but that is part of the fun of the system imho.

Pet Battles: You can’t stop me now!

Onward and upward as they say to even more treacherous ground!

I am not sure I am a smart person given how much stress these battles are putting on my brain.

Heading into Cataclysm expansion now and Goz Banefury was ultimately the hardest one for me to do. I think it took me over 8 attempts and a massive couple of hours break between as I just could not tolerate the death anymore!

The last fight was also pretty difficult and required me walking away from my computer. Sometimes, just sometimes I think the tamers cheat because you do effects that should work or make a move yet your pet doesn’t actually have a chance to get the spell off before dying.  This made me so angry.  Don’t we all love a challenge?!?!  right!??! RIGHT?!!?!!?  <pulls hair out>.

So after finally getting all the achievement for Cataclysm, I went to get some of the Pandaria ones complete and after doing only 2 managed to finally get my Safari hat. I knew I was close to getting it so that is what pushed me onward.  I have since not taken the hat off because I am generally using pets within the 20-24 range for a lot of these fights.

The Shrine Fly (which I used coins to level) has been a god send. I have used it so many times on battles it has saved me a lot, as well the Anubasith Idol – I have no idea how I would have completed a lot of these fights without those two pets. I would strongly suggest you head out and get them by any means necessary.

Pet Battles: Taming everything in site.

This is a much harder challenge than I thought it would be.

Much harder.

I had no idea where I was up to when I decided to do this so I headed to Orgrimmar and picked up the first section.  I decided to do them in order as it would just be easier to remember where I was at. I found out I was up to Northrend. I had done more than I realised, which led me to notice that I only need about 10 more battles to get my Safari Hat. This was all very positive.

Until I stated reading about the strats needed for most of these fights. Aside from the Anubisath Idol, I didn’t have a lot of options. This made it exceedingly difficult on almost all the trainers. However with a little tweaking and some very wonderful help from RNGJeebus I managed to get Northrend under my belt.

I really wish I had kept a record of all the pets I had used against which tamers.  I would have loved to have updated the wowhead posts for all the other people like me that don’t have a huge selection of the right pets. If anyone knows of an in game way I can find out what I used please let me know!

On this last fight I used Fel Flame, Shrine Fly and Dancing Water Skimmer.  I had to go and level my Fel Flame to 25 (from 23) and my Shrine Fly with some coins but honestly it was well worth it to defeat this one after many attempts.

So much joy when getting that achievement!

PETS!! So many pets!

I am actually a little surprised that I have so many.  I just wish I was as keen on levelling them as collecting.

Lominari asked me how many pets I actually had and I discovered it was only 597 – with an achievement for 600 I decided to go and hunt some down.

After having run Trial of the Crusader in 25 man heroic and having a pet drop whilst chasing argent tourney seals we decided to do ICC 25 man heroic and see if any would drop.  Nope.

So I decided I would just hunt some down the old fashioned way.  Thanks to Warcraft pets I figured out where I would find the most amount of battle pets I had left to collect.

My 600th by pure random chance was a lovely blue pet! I get so few blues so it was very nice to see, I seem to have a huge amount of grey quality ones!!

This goes well with the Legion achievement I got the other day when doing world quests.  I had spent (the previous day) about an hour riding around Felsoul Hold killing the spiders for the last one to spawn and had given up.

Whilst with Lominari (of course), we happen to stumble across the last little bugger!!  You have to kill the Thornclaw Broodling as they share a spawn timer with the Vicious Broodling (which is always a rare quality!).  But this Vicious one was sitting there doing nothing, all alone.  Just waiting to be scooped up!!

We also won’t discuss how Lominari managed to stumble across the rug needed for the Dust Bunny pet as well, then asked me what it was about.  This happened a couple of days after I finally managed to get it (2 weeks in total with checking all the points in Dalaran for the rug whenever I was nearby and overtime I logged on and before I logged off).  He just stumbled on it…..

The guy has more luck than anyone should have!!

The Long forgotten Hippogryph

When I say that Lominari would do pretty much anything required for Talbuk’s or hippogryph mounts, you have to understand I really mean it.  Spend hours farming rare mobs; no problem, farm hundreds of stupid ogre coins; easy.

Happen upon a glowing pink crystal and then spend the next hour chasing them down – done!

My lucky, lucky husband told me what he was doing when he was on the 4th crystal.  He was so nervous about not being able to find the 5th one,  so I headed to Azsuna to help him.  Of course it was me that found the 5th crystal for him, so I do take full credit, sadly I should have kept that small piece of luck for myself.

Here he is grabbing it!  I missed the text which says he has been found but I didn’t realise until after I had logged out.

Lominari is now considering doing the recruit a friend for the Emerald one because we are also doing the Argent tournament again for him to get the one from up there, Silver Covenant. He started with 1oo seals and only needs 150, so it should only take a couple of days and he will be all mounted up with his favourites.

As a side note: I found one of the crystals this morning and spent 3 hours searching – I only found 3 of the required 5.  3 hours. With Lominari running around as well including tom tom points!  No luck.

He disputes this game loves him.  Even though he jumped on his demonhunter yesterday (a toon we got to max level and then did pretty much nothing else on) and ran a mythic with some friends – scored a Legendary!!

Lominari – 2 // Dragonray – 0  <<  Legendary scores.

But nope, he isn’t lucky.

The mount os gorgeous looking though.  I am so very jealous of him!  At least it suits him when he is shadow form with all the purple and pinks.

Heroes of the Storm Mount

I used to play DOTA2 – briefly. Maybe 3 months we played it with some friends so HoTS is not unfamiliar territory to me and I did download when it came out with the intention of playing but no one else I knows plays.  Like Overwatch – all my friends are WoW players first so it makes it hard but even aside from that – I don’t generally have the time to play as much as I would love to.

But I managed to convince Lominari to help me out with this one yesterday – it took us 3 hours to complete the 15 matches.  We did the first 8 or so with beginner level AI, and the rest with the recruit level (which was a little more challenging).  I thought I was taking screenshots during the game but turns out I didn’t, so you guys are lucky you get a post filled with Blizzard pictures instead!

I played Jaina to start with as we didn’t really have many options available and I didn’t want to play a healer.

Lominari played Muradin the entire time:

After the 4th match I started switching between Jaina and Anub’arak:

I really enjoyed it, the maps were great and had different requirements with altars, temples, curses etc.  It was a lot of fun. I would possibly play more if I had others who were keen, however I think I would prefer to play Overwatch if given the choice between the two. Although, you could potentially create the same group of 5 players for both games as casual people and just have a bit of fun switching what you played each week. (That would be my ideal situation).

In the end we got close to a couple of losses however we triumphed and we won all 15 games and successfully got our awesome mount in WoW!

And you get this lovely little package delivered to your collection tab.  Am I the only one who misses the mounts and pets being delivered to your mailbox with a little note expressing different sentiments?  I know it was painful setting up new toons and spending 20 minutes at a post box but it felt that little bit more personal.  You just can’t have it both ways I guess?

When you hit the spacebar, flames come out the side – as a fire mage, this gets me excited because it matches my transmog and style.

And finally a normal picture of the awesomeness:

The event ends on the 13th March so if you want to get it done, I would suggest you get cracking.  3 hours was constant play for us and some experience with the type of game play needed.  I would be very happy to jump into groups if needed – just yell out 🙂

Profession: Fishing

I have been fishing a lot recently in aid of upping my cooking skills.  I figure they will work together except for the slight issue of needing so any ingredients for each recipe, however on the bright side, it might mean a second cook book or even me attempting to make my own Warcraft recipes!

The biggest salvation which I realised too late is that they made the raft from Pandaria an actual toy.  No more having to carry it around – brilliant!

I got an enchanted lure at some point and decided to use it and see what happened. Got an achievement – that’s what! For catching a rare fish.

Which made me wonder what else I had been catching and not paying attention to: over 10 Leyscale Koi – thanks for Ancient Mana, a Magic frog (I picked up another one later but was a fish not a frog – same principle though).

And this gem of a find:

Yup, I was carrying around a murloc for god knows how long; no wonder my back started to hurt so when I decided to slap him and stop him from getting a free ride. Isn’t he adorable….NOT!! Filthy murloc!

My fishing is at about 750 I think and my cooking is approx 740 so a super long way to go no matter which way you look at it sadly, but as I have one maxxed profession now, I need to keep pushing for the others.  I should really get focused on that alchemy and tailoring – but my god the expense.  Gahh!!  I only just hit 100k for the first time in my WoW life and I don’t want to waste any of it!

Time to empty the quest log

I admit it – I dislike having a a quest log that can never be cleaned out.  I seem to be battling the constantly full quest log and it is driving me mental. So in an effort to clear some of it out I signed up for random heroics. My ilevel is sitting at 846 now thanks to some world quests and so I figured it was about time.  I think I cleared out 2 quests with the 4 heroics I ended up doing.

Better than nothing, I still need Eye of Azahara, Darkheart Thicket….and one more….something…with a boss in it that has a quest item.  That isn’t including the 3 other Mythic dungeons I need to run still for a quest which have items I need to collect.

My first run was Blackrook hold – which I have a special room key for, but we were going so fast I was scared of getting lost as I barely able to keep up.  That place made me dizzy with all the spiral staircases – reminiscent of Shadowfang Keep 😀

Next I scored Neltharion’s Lair (which was a quest dungeon). Stupidly I used slowfall to get to the secret chest after the snake boss and then proceeded to fall out off the ledge when trying to turn around. Fail. Hardest fail ever.  That was after almost dying to the cliff boss on the first jump…yup, I almost died before even getting to the boss.

After that super speedy run with AOE tanking and just constant pulling, my next run was Maw of Souls (another quest in here).  I really like this dungeon. I don’t yet really understand all the fights (I need to do more reading) but I adore the mythology behind it all.   Almost nearly died to the purple on he ground with the last boss as I didn’t realise she faced a direction…corrected that on the next lot, which I was alive for thanks to the brilliant healer not letting me die.

I also ran a Halls of Valour which was horrific – it was the only run we had a wipe because the 2 tanks who couldn’t decide who was main decided to pull almost the entire room of Vikings in the longroom.  I couldn’t have face-palmed any harder for the risk giving myself a black eye. Fenrir also was to the left as you enter his realm which I had never seen before and so they were running all over the map looking for him whilst me and the healer followed the foot steps and kept telling them to come back.

Overall LFD was as expected, super quick, no waiting around and just getting it done. No time to ask questions just kill anything that spawns and stay out of the crap on the ground.  Only 1 bad group out of 4 is pretty good and I am not going to complain about that.  I don’t believe I got any gear out f those runs either which were of any use, I did hand over a shoulder piece to a mage, but I think that may have been the only one I actually got.

Feels good to do some baby level raiding again

I ran some LFR recently when I was home bored and discovered it was not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be.   I got pulled into the last boss of one which was disappointing – Elerethe Renferal was the boss I believe.

Since that was over so fast, I decided to queue up for some more and ended up almost immediately in another one.  As you can see I got to kill a few more bosses.

I forgot to take pictures of the entire thing except for this one when I realised I would want to blog about this later (and because of the achievement).

I did not get one piece of loot from all the boss kills 🙁  I can’t even tell you much about the fights etc as I was so focused on just staying out of the crap on the ground or whatever was causing me to lose health.  LFR groups seem to run super fast so you barely have time to do anything other than just run for dear life.

Cenarius was devastating, not as devastating as Ysera, but still heartbreaking for my druid heart.  I did sign up for another LFR which ported me into a massive room with Odyn but there was nowhere for me to go.  I couldn’t figure out how to get to the rest of the raid group and before I managed to type for help they pulled the next boss, so I ported out and gave up for the night.

I might try and jump into some next week again, I did enjoy being in a group with so many people again and killing big baddies. I confess to feeling a little guilty because I don’t have flasks yet so am using old ones.  (I don’t like the new profession gating!!)
