There is a lot of stuff in here, generic achievements, pets received by my wonderful wonderful friends, mythics run, chests looted, my husband winning mounts from his first ever kill of Jaina (in LFR no less!!), Pathfinder part 1 and various other bits and pieces, like my mage reaching 120 finally and Apophis’ first mythic run.
It has been an amazing 4 months in game 🙂 and I can’t wit to see what the new patch brings.
My biggest question is…are they bringing the dragons back? OMG it would be the most epic of expansions and I would lose my mind.
We also did a fair bit of PVP one night, just running around and killing stuff. It was loads of fun and we all got a stupid amount of achievements from them because none of us had done PVP on these characters. We might have to jump back in and do some more because the list of randoms you could end up in was about 4 the last time we did it, not it is about 25 or something incredible.
So they say anyway. I may have just made that up as well.
I am sorry dear readers for my inconsistency this last few weeks, real life has been a challenge and WoW is also causing me struggles.
First RL – I am generally just home later these days and given how early we are awake in the morning it is just struggle city to get motivation for more than dinner and bed. This has not been helped with recent transport issues and delays on my line causing me to get home even later than usual. My anger levels have been spiking. Mixed with some medical things and it all just means “no” to game time mentally.
Secondly – WoW. Long time readers of mine will know i adore Warcraft and Blizzard. I very rarely complain about xpacs overall and how the game is developing but this xpac is getting pretty close to Drainor for me. When I get home with my total hour of free time before bed, I cannot justify logging on to do one thing which takes 30-40 minutes and know that isn’t really getting me any closer to achieving anything.
Perfect example a few nights ago our group decided to run a mythic (I worked from home) so whilst we were waiting for Michael to eat, Drew and I jumped online to kill the weekly boss – which should have taken 15 minutes max by the time you get a group happening etc. As we killed the boss he reset or we phased or something and we had to spend another 10 minutes killing him again. Neither Drew or myself got a piece of gear out of that. That was nearly 30 minutes gone for nothing as we were basically the first 10 in the group we had to wait for others to join.
I am time poor; I get that it is my issue, but I feel like even if I logged in every single night for 30 minutes I wouldn’t ever complete a “thing”. Islands can’t all be completed in one session, LFR queues take 30-40 minutes for also no gear (whenever I have queued for them), the warfront takes about 40 minutes and good luck for gear on that one as well if the 370 quest isn’t up and world quests are pretty badly spaced I can only manage to get one emissary group done generally because it takes so long to get to some areas (not all I know!!)
I appreciate they have made it way more accessible for people who are time poor, but they have almost made it harder because gear is so difficult to get. I much prefer being able to save up tokens of some sort from consistent drops so I know I will be able to buy a piece in a set amount of time if nothing else has dropped for me.
All of this has combined into me just not wanting to log into game knowing I really only have limited time. Why can’t I win the lotto and quit work to become a WoW addict proper?
Yes, the famous one 🙂 I knew her before she became famous, that makes our friendship real right? HAHAHHA
Zeirah has a blog which is how I met her, when I came back to the game a while ago, we discovered our blog names were soooooo close. I sent her a message just to let her know because I thought it was cool that someone came up with a very similar blog name, but I was more concerned people would think she was me and I didn’t want her having to put up with that sort of confusion. Getting a reader base is hard enough in such a niche thing without people thinking it was me and not engaging with her.
Suffice it to say we have been friends since 🙂 She is awesome so go past and check out her blog if you haven’t read it!
Due to one of her posts recently where she was lamenting the loss of group content that wasn’t a PUG or LFR, I decided to start trying to wrangle her into our runs. The first of course being a couple of mythics. I point out again, Michael, was unavailable. I mean this time the excuse was some sort of dinner for one of their good friends…I mean what is that?!?!?! How dare they have friends outside of WoW!! It was a perfect opportunity for me to pull Zeirah in with us and have a run around.
We pulled in Matty, poor Orkrist to help us DPS. Motherlode made me laugh so hard. I warned Zeirah that we usually went down the left side of the instance and she stuck left. Pulled mobs from behind houses, pulled mobs to the side, pulled mobs everywhere. It was hilarious. She moves a lot as a healer, which is fine except for this instance. She started swearing towards the end of the run when it happened but I almost had tears from laughing so hard. I was calling out for her to move to the left or right to avoid mobs and it was almost always too late….ahahhaha
Matty kept dying because he was standing in stuff, pulling aggro (not deliberately) and just being in the wrong spot at the wrong time. I would have hated to see his repair bill. It was such a fun run though.
So much fun we decided to head to Underrot as well – suckers for punishment if you ask me. At one point we all died except Zeirah who was being attacked by one mob she ran halfway through the instance to meet us coming back in just so we could save her. Must be great when you are actually a good healer – to be able to survive when taking damage, unlike some other people attempting to heal. We pulled so many extra mobs in here as well, the first couple of pulls on the ramps being super bad – but we can only put that down to Drew for a change. I make sure to get a few food “gg tank” comments in there. He spent the entire last xpac telling me the same when we wiped….lol
I don’t think we got any great gear but it was fun to just be running around and having a laugh.
Did I ever tell you about the run we did a few weeks ago because Ben’s nephew cracked the wobblies at his uncle for not running anything with him? If I didn’t, I am sorry but it was pretty hilarious. If I have sorry, you are going to sit through the story again.
Ben decided to pull a group of us together to run his nephew, Hayden (sp?) through Motherlode and sadly Michael was not up to doing another mythic. No one else was responding and so, I stupidly offered to heal. From my memory it was Me healing, Drew tanking, Ben, Hayden and poor Simon.
We did motherlode as it is easiest to get to and it was horrific. I didn’t have any mouseover macros set up, I had no experience healing as a druid and even less just healing in general. Hayden kept pulling extra mobs on his way back to the group after dying and Ben kept telling him off until he quietly said “well, I haven’t ever been here before!” Oh. Oops. Sorry love. It was so hilarious. The entire run was just a mess of everyone pulling threat and extra mobs and me trying to heal through it with all buttons that look green!!! Thankfully that ended early as the server decided to do a restart and we were all put out of our misery.
So if that wasn’t enough of a horrid experience I offered to heal again just recently because we wanted to do a run but Michael was again, unavailable. Noticing a theme here?? What is our heals doing!??! I believe he was going for a run…I mean…come on… WoW > Exercise? LOL.
It was well worth it though because we got a pet out of it!! It was the entire reason we chose King’s rest; to get the pet – since I was going to heal we figured it wouldn’t be too hard on me.
I only managed to kill people a few times as I set up my mouseovers before we went in which was so much better. I have so much respect for healers because I have no idea how you heal and move at the same time. I died on the Tribe of Elder boss after we killed the first one, so Ben laid his hands on Drew at one point and they managed to kill the boss without me.
I couldn’t cast anything in the embalmer room because those stupid slimes targeted me the entire time. I was – once again – cursing about them violently. They don’t target random – they target me. Only. Like the last boss in Motherlode – it is me – every single time with the missile. Every time. I have no idea how to heal when I literally spend the entire time moving. OMG I was angry. I really do not understand how healers have the calmness of mind to do the job. I think raid healing would be much easier because you are not the only person there but 5 mans. It is like a stress level I cannot deal with, the only time I felt ok was when Drew had all the aggro and was the only taking actual damage, but the second someone else took aggro it was OMGWTFHEALZ!!!!!!! Horrid. HORRID!! I also refuse to create a healing set when I am still trying to get a tanking set and keep my balance set up to date. Too hard. TOO HARD BLIZZARD!!!
So how do we get the pet? In the last boss room of King’s Rest, there are 2 large sarcophagi at the back of the room (left and right) and a far distance apart. You need to have two people ready to stand on the little triangle/ shape on the ground in front of the sarcophagi just after you pull the boss – one left and one right. The triangle shape will have no interaction. Once you pull the boss, you need to wait for some tiny little fairy lights to appear around the triangle on the ground. When you see the lights the two people stand on their own side and you have to stand there until the sarcophagi starts to shake and rumble. It took about a minute for it to happen with us. So just be patient and have your healer keep the tank alive whilst you wait. You can then kill the boss once you have the rumbling sarcophagi happen.
You cannot do it on heroic or keystone. You have to go in on mythic 0 only!
I don’t understand our mythic group, we have done so many many mythics and couldn’t complete them within time. I am talking levels 2 & 3. Some we were so far over we should have just given up and others we missed by minutes only.
We were all starting to get a little disheartened, with the exception of Oui who has been running 6 and 7’s with other people for gear/keys and experience. So after completing a 3 I suggested we try and get a higher key done just to be able to get better loot for the week. Ben had a 5 Motherlode. I cringed.
But we went and did it for the completion only, I wasn’t worried about the timer, Oui and the others definitely had other ideas. We chained pulled perfectly, we CC’d quickly, we burnt mobs down, skipped a few here and there.
We were controlled, calm and we didn’t die. It was almost a perfect run I would say. Yup. I am calling it perfect.
We did the 5 in time!! IN TIME!!! Ben’s key got upgraded to a 6, Michael advised we were only a couple of minutes short of being able to do a 6 according to his add-on. That is promising.
I remember when the boss died I thought we had failed as it took about 5 seconds for the mythic screen to flash up for me and I was getting worried we had taken too long on the last boss. HUZZUH!! We were all pretty rapt with the win! We definitely needed it for morale.
Of course doing one made us all believe we could do more….so….we did. We killed a Motherlode 4, tried a Atal’dazar 5 and we would likely have had that one with a bit more practise. The poison mobs killed us a few times and were the only cause of our deaths but that was a minute of time by itself. We did have a plan and it worked quite well, we wasted a few minutes trying a new route which will be epic next time we go in as we know which way we have to go now.
We then decided we could do another motherlode, smashed that, then we figured Underrot was possible because we know that place so well. We had 3 deaths throughout which was nothing, but we were pretty close to the timer on this one. The room you have to clear around the boss just takes so long even with grouping and chaining.
So we need to focus on getting through 5’s – I think that is our current safe ilevel. I am excited by that. It means we can get a few more pieces and start pushing higher content – we may not meet the timer but if we can finish a 5 in time with time to spare we could in theory finish a 6 or 7 just outside the timer (if we can get a key) every couple of mythics. That means better gear for higher mythics. o.O I love it!!
I just can’t believe how some mythics can go so pear shaped so quickly! We have yet to max out our deaths at 53 though – we still hold the record for under Legion. We are mostly hitting mid 20’s for deaths and it is generally a boss mechanic that causes disaster.
Merektha (ToS) is the most difficult so far, it is a guaranteed wipe (if not multiple) on that one and I hate it. Sporecaller Zancha (UR) caused a few issues as well with us not clearing enough of the little mushrooms – none of us realised how deadly they are until we did a run without Ben and his self sacrificing. I think it will be much easier now we know the mechanic better. Unbound Abomination (UR) is a little touch and go as well but we have managed to do it every time. The only boss I do not want to even attempt in Mythic is The Council of Tribes (KR) but I know we will have to eventually.
What are you guys finding challenging? What’s your highest mythic so far – gimme your tips!!!?
We thought we would give a timed mythic run a go, because why not. We only had lowbie keys though so the best of the selection we had was a Tol Dagor 2.
We smashed it. I was so excited about the situation though I forgot to take a shot of the timer screen and I wanted to get a group shot….All I have is this.
The only proof I have is Moryrt receiving the achievement for completing a times mythic.
We have both been snowed under the last week with things going on and stress so have have barely had any game time at all. Including gearing up, mythics (or doing the weekly 4) and even expeditions, all been left and forgotten about. I guess we also don’t want to burn ourselves out by doing nothing but WoW, however I do feel bad that we aren’t running more mythics with the guys, however they seem to be making their way in the world without us (thankfully).
I was excited about out little achievement and then I saw a +16 has already been completed and someone was saying they were doing +9’s…. <shame>. How do they even get the time to gear up for that so quickly. I just don’t have enough hours in the day. Seriously. I need to pull my finger out though and get some more runs in.
I need to either win lotto or get a part time job that pays what I am on now…LOL.
We have tried multiple mythics since then and have not managed to get another one in time yet. I mostly blame other people like Chris and his fat hunter butt; but we all hold some blame for pulling extra mobs, dying to stuff and generally falling of planks and dying to sharks (thankfully before the timer actually starts!) or not turning into golden balls of energy and dying upon hitting the ground for 10000 feet up. The highest I have done so far is a 4 underrot and that was simply so I could possibly get a better piece of gear upon reset. See our steady stream of failures below….
I really would like to get some complete in time and it is honestly our death counts causing the problem. This can be solved easily! Lol
So once we broke through the first barrier of mythics we basically never went back to a heroic. The only time has been for world quests so we can just burn through them quickly or to complete an achievement.
The upside is we managed to get the dungeon master achievement after some targeted runs.
Tol Dagor is such a confusing maze of a place, I have no idea how people find their ways through these dungeons for the first time.
The Sand Queen boss is a pain of a fight, with the worst bit being the drones giving the boss a buff so you have to kill them away from the tank. Great for a ranged class but crap when the rest of the group is melee.
Jes Howlis is fun, I like this fight but only the you have the ability to clear out the cells before the fight.
Knight Captain Valyri is a horrible fight, my most hated, having to move the barrels is painful and if you don’t you get covered in fire. I managed to move the barrels perfectly one attempt but did no DPS on the boss. I guess that is the point right? Someone sacrifices their DPS for the good of the group?
Overseer Korgus the last boss, it a fun fight as well. I like the mechanic of not being able to move too much (unless your tank pulls the boss before you are even up the last lot of stairs so you get stunned almost immediately and nearly die from the first lot of black on the ground). It certainly keeps you on your toes.
King’s rest. What can I say. Screw you to the pits of hell you rubbish instance. Specifically the The Council of Tribes (bastards). What a horrible horrible fight. I can’t even talk about it without getting angry. In fact it annoyed me enough I took a picture when we killed them. This is not so bad a fight now having done it a few more times but it still a touch and go situation.
The Golden Serpent; the best tip we got for this (Thanks Nathan) was to start the boss at the top of the steps, dump our first and second batches of gold just there and then move the boss to below the steps for the next lot. It keeps the gold together for some amazing AOE and they die super fast.
Mchimba the Embalmer I don’t mind the boss fight, but the trash can go and get screwed. SCREWED!! Every single time I do any damage I get the green puddles under me and no one else gets them. It doesn’t matter if I am in melee, middle or farthest away. The only time I don’t get puddles is when I stand there and literally do nothing. Everything I have read says it is supposed to be random, but I can guarantee you it isn’t. It makes me so angry, I swear every single time I am in that room and everyone just laughs at me. Which makes me even more angry. Not much angers me in WoW. Even Moryrt made comment during a run about how he never sees me angry when I play, except this room.
Finally, Dazar, The First King I had no idea the first time I did this, it seemed super complicated and confusing but the next couple of times I have run it seems like no problem at all. I would consider this much easier than any of the other bosses in this dungeon.
Shrine of storms we did heroic as it was the last one we needed for the dungeon achievement! What a place. So good in fact that I can barely remember it. There were fights, something about water, loads of trash….yeah it was good? I don’t remember disliking much about it?
I guess I need to go back to Shrine. First I want to open up Siege or Boralus.
Battle for Azeroth has been out for a few weeks now and while it’s still early days, there’s a lot of content for us to gobble up. What’s already made it to your to-do list to get through in the next couple of months or even next couple of years? We’ll check back at the end of the year, like we did in our Legion post, and see if your plans are still on track or have shifted slightly. I know I have a massive to-do list already, so we’d love to see yours!
For our topic this week we are asking you –
What’s on your To-Do List for BFA?
Wow, so many things, just too many!!
Battle Safari (I have maybe 4 pets at the moment).
Pathfinder One (and Two when it is released)
Reputation/Questchain for honourbound reputation so I can open the Siege of Boralus dungeon. (Sloooooow going!!)
Level my Mage
Level Alchemy/Tailoring on my mage and Enchanting/Engineering on my pally/fishing and cooking on my druid.
Complete the Legion dungeon/raid achievements for mounts
Chase down some leather druid gear for trial of styles (I have so few items to use)
Complete some of the gear sets on my mage ( I have about 8 sets in which I missing single or double items only)
Level or boost an alliance toon to experience the story line from their side.
Level more of my battle pets to 25
Try the warfronts (still haven’t done the opening thing yet).
We did our very first mythic!! Can you believe it! We are soo excited. 310 ilevel for me, Moryrt and Nibblepie were about 316-320, so we knew we weren’t too far off being able to handle them with our set group. Stab was 340 I think and Pracey was 332? But still not exactly stellar levels.
Figuring that mythic 0 isn’t a killer and isn’t really much worse than heroic we decided to head to the motherlode because it was a central location and easy to get to. Never underestimate laziness people, never 🙂
We had one particularly bad patch where we got mobs from behind a hut accidentally as well as mobs to the side. It was bedlam. We wiped technically once, but we died a lot more than that. We kept running back individually to keep the momentum going before deciding to just wait and go again as a group.
I took a picture of our group in the middle of the run because I wanted to remember our very first mythic. Unlike some people who have already completed the collective mythic achievement, some of us have waited to go together as a group. LOL yes, many cherry popping jokes were made because some of us are juveniles when together.
The last boss killed us, once. I am terrified of doing this on a harder keystone. This fight is horrid. So much stuff on the ground, and homing missiles and gattling guns and smashes ….it makes me nervous. Hopefully a few more attempts and we will spank it with ease.
We finished that earlier than we thought we would, so we signed up for another heroic. The Waycrest Manor. (We now only have 2 more to see). I liked it. Pracey was enamoured with the pipe organ playing throughout and I admit it was nice. The fights aren’t too bad on heroic. I have no idea about the fight with the flasks and the dead people, but I am sure I will make sense of it after another couple of goes.
I clicked a “Vile pod” which was sitting in a fountain in a courtyard and “Groundskeeper Lilltih” popped up and almost killed me. I started screaming for aid. Reminiscent of Gondor really, but my team came running and I survived. I tried to not touch anything else. There doesn’t seem to be anything fancy about the pod just an extra elite spawn.
So mythic number 1 done. We got so much gear drop as well. Pracey is the only plate wearer and the brilliance of 4 people being able to swap gear is indescribable. We are now well into the 324 space for ilevel which means we might get close for raiding requirements set by the guild of 330, especially if we can fit in some mythics between now and then. 340 ilevel gear dropping on bosses is nothing to be baulking at and basically why we stopped running heroics – why chase 325 when we can chase 340? Amirite?
DPS wise I think the boomy is doing me ok, I would like to be higher but I need to stop comparing myself to Stab and Pracey who had 30 ilevels on me and still have about 20 after upgrades. It makes a big difference. I even downloaded Hekili (mod for rotations) and my DPS isn’t that far off if I am not using the mod compared to when I am using it. This makes me happy.
Stab and Pracey are so far ahead of us in levels due to their annual leave I suspect they will be well into gearing for heroics by the time this post is live, I left them at 119.
Nibble is at 113 (I am pretty sure), might be 114 actually, and Moryrt and myself are at 112. We had about 5 level 120’s in the guild when I logged on (which is pretty well done imho) and quite a few in the 117+ range. I noted that the world first happened at about 1pm our time. Amazing! Or insane….I can never decide, you can see WoWhead’s post about it. It was a Method player so I am not surprised by that at all. Grats!
I digress. Moryrt and I were levelling when the call to run some dungeons was made. Given this is our mythic group, we decided to give them a try. Moryrt even set up his iPad to read through the guides so that we weren’t just smashing through; we learnt too late in the last xpac about many of the boss/trash talents during high level mythics, so this time we want to be better prepared.
Balance, Retribution, Vengeance, Mistweaver and a Stabber make up our team and we did really well for it. No wipes, not even any deaths. We didn’t need much healing and we were well behaved, no issues with threat for Moryrt either.
Our first random was Temple of Sethraliss, here is the group sitting down for some chow before beginning. I believe Nibble and Moryrt are having a moment of communion between tank and healer (it might be a new BfA thing).
All the bosses in here are pretty easy, I think the lightening boss Galvazzt will be the healer challenge in mythics and the last boss The Avatar of Sethraliss will be the DPS race. Merektha and Adderis & Aspix I don’t feel were awful but they will just be messy. We did this one twice via the random and we went through it much faster the second time and our boss kills were faster. The pathing field of mobs with the eyes before the last boss will be an absolute slaughter house in mythic I imagine – I am not looking forward to that overall.
We then got Atal’Dazar which was amazing!!! I want to live in this place. I love the architecture.
Here we are before starting. This had some fun fights which I think are going to be absolutely horrific in mythics..possibly even heroic.
We started with Vol’kaal and his poison thing on the ground and each other is going to be a testament to keeping a group together, I suspect standing on or near him then just moving backward is going to be the way to go. We can test that out over time.
Rezan is a giant dinosaur and such an interesting fight. There is no way I am going to cope in mythic. He fears, he chases, you have to avoid raptor bones and you can’t even stand in the middle (which is the obvious choice!) I loved it, even if I stepped on two lots of bones.
Priestess Alun’za and Yazma are a bit meh…they didn’t seem hard at this level, I imagine that will be more difficult with affixes etc.
All in all we had fun running the dungeons and we got to 112 by the end of the night. Only 8 more levels to go. The dungeons are very lovely and the fights are fun so far of what we have seen.
I would like to be able to give you some wonderful story of redemption, quests, adventure and dragons to explain where I have been, sadly it is just life.
Adjusting to a new routine is taking longer than expected and I honestly am not feeling great about it. I am highly stressed and missing a lot of things I used to do because I had more time.
I officially stepped down as tank from the guild raid team. I will still be home and around for our Friday night raids but I can’t, in good conscience, take a tank spot when I am not going to be available for Wednesday. I have returned to Karate (last week actually) as I was heartbroken at the thought of not going and then having raid cancelled as well. As luck would have it only 4 people signed up so they cancelled anyway. The Raidinator strikes again!!
I am trying to decide if I want to switch back to my mage for BfA or stick with my druid and considering my enjoyment with tanking I am leaning towards druid. I could always fill in on a Friday if needed in guild raid but it also means our mythic group has a tank that maybe we can continue with that in BfA! And let’s be honest – i want to be a purple glowy bear forever!! I might try kitty that way the gear isn’t too different for tanking 🙂
Due to Drew and my birthdays this week, we had some of our best friends come down from Sydney to attend our birthday dinner. It was an amazing night and the weekend was made better with table top gaming included when possible.
During periods of food though and a fair chunk of Sunday morning we watched the Mythic invitationals. Why? Because the 5 of us make up our main mythic group. Michael, Ben, Oui, Drew and myself.
It was definitely an eye opening experience watching these groups kill content with ease. We learnt so much about boss mechanics that we had missed and how to deal with certain things. It will definitely see an improvement in our play…I hope…
A few points to note though:
Every single tank was a DK. If one tank can be so completely OP there is an issue (in my mind). There was no other class represented at all in this role. This provides imbalance already, to the Blizzard trope of “playing the class you want to play”. I should – be able to level any Tank and be able to complete content to the same level. I shouldn’t have to play an awful class to do what I want to do in game. We run with a Druid and I refuse to level a DK.
Healers – Pally or Druid only. We saw at least 2 options here, thankfully. Again, anyone that has anything else is pretty much out of the running to get into the invitationals. You just won’t have the class to do it. Assuming mobility and type of spells available? We run with a Monk and I have NFI about healing in general but he tells me some things he has no real way to counter effectively more than once.
DPS – Was basically made up of Monks (even multiple), Demonhunters and a ranged. The general DPS we saw were Warlocks with a spattering of Mages and a Shammy or two – but not one Priest (in any role). It took most of the day to see a Warrior or a Hunter and it wasn’t until we started watching the Asian teams that we saw any Rogues. This was again a little disappointing because I felt it was pretty specifically made up of certain classes that you had to have to succeed. We run with a Rogue, Shammy and Paladin.
We have the completely wrong team and this makes me wonder if this is why we struggle on mythics above 13/14 because we simply don’t have the class make up. I am sure at our level that isn’t true – we are just still learning the mythic dungeons to a larger degree, but how much harder have we made it on ourselves?
The most amazing this I saw over the weekend was the team called “No Healer”. They actually had no healer and it blew my mind. I kid you not.
They didn’t even have a healer class in. They had a few deaths but they actually won a round or two and I simply couldn’t handle it. How?! How can people play so well they don’t even need heals. Leech – I am assuming. But seriously. OP, DK, OP!!!
I have since found out there is an entire section of the time trials without healers in the groups on the time trial pages here. Check out +22 Upper Kara….not one healer but all monks. All the way.
I plan on catching up on some more this week to see how it goes. I can’t wait to see more. This has inspired our group to focus a little more and be better in mythics. I think a team with no healer having less deaths made us feel bad so we plan on improving that!
I still disagree with only certain classes making the top groups. We should be able to succeed at that level no matter what class. What are your thoughts? Are you even watching?
We have long been the heroes of our own stories in World of Warcraft. NPCs, both minor and major alike, remind us constantly that we are the saviours of Azeroth; that if it weren’t for us, the world would have ended if we hadn’t have defeated that boss, or killed that pest, or scooped up that poop. We are the stars.
For our latest topic, though, we want to talk about you, the player, and ask you:
When have you felt totally badass in game?
Did you kill a super hard boss that you’d been working on for a really long time? Did you have a near miss, and saved yourself from falling to your death? Was there an outfit your transmogged that made you feel super strong and powerful? Or did you do something for someone in game that made you feel great? Let us know! This topic is all about the things that make you feel good in game.
Coincidentally this happened only a few weeks ago.
But i can’t decide between the two events so I am going to tell you about both.
The first is when myself and Michael managed to down the last boss in mythic SoT from 40%. When we were doing it – if you listen to the video, I was sure I would die pretty quickly because of the increasing debuff. But what happened was I kept my cool, hit my defensive before the crap, hit my heal afterward and just kept moving the boss around.
I didn’t panic, i just did my thing. I doubt I could replicate it if I tried. I was just expecting a massive hit to happen that would wipe me out. I felt pretty amazing as a tank to be honest.
The second event was completing Heroic Argus and getting the ahead of the curve achievement. I still feel pretty amazing every time I remember that I helped tank our way through the content. The guild was already half way through Heroic when I started so I really only did 50% of it. But it feels nice to know I contributed. I felt pretty badass.
Of course all of this means nothing though because I was told that tanking on a druid is like winning gold in the special olympics because it isn’t how I tank but everything else making it easy. (Save the disability rage btw – it was a stupid comment by a colleague and I am fully aware!). So now I feel a little like my gorgeous flexing biceps are deflated balloons. I also wasn’t there for the night the guild cleared heroic in one shot AND killed Coven for the first time – maybe I hold them back more then help!
Cest la vie right?
I started out feeling awesome – so let me just remember the good times!!
Or gentle…either way I can’t believe this at all. I had simply put this into the pile of things I might get done eventually but was giving up on actually believing it would happen.
Craig messaged me a couple of days ago trying to convince me to come on a run and get myself carried for the timed 15.
I am not usually a huge fan of being carried – it feels like I cheapen the experience. I thought I would be DPS as they were trying to get someone called Scud to tank. Also a bear. Apparently epic. Anyway because I tanked instead (Scud didn’t respond) and contributed to the actual completion of the mythic, I have shifted posts around because I am too excited to not post sooner! I was part of the group rather than just a carry! Boo-ya!
Craig pulled a group together which consisted of Lauralin (my little purple battle pet), Angeleus and Confliction from his guild on Dath. Someone had a level 16 Upper Kara key so of course that sounded like the perfect plan…for some people. I think Upper might be easier than lower but honestly so hard to tell when the DPS in the group steals aggro within half a second, especially with skittish affix. It was so damn difficult. I have never used my taunt on CD as part of my rotation before – it was so hard – even with a head start…<shame>
I actually wasn’t sure were going to make it just because when you watch the timer tick down and it builds the pressure. I am not kidding – I stood up after we finished and I had sweat pouring down my back – I was so excited and nervous. I think we only had 8 deaths in total. Pretty sure that makes a fair difference to our usual 30 – 40 on level 13-14 mythics 🙂
The guys were pretty funny and the language…yeah a little more over the top than my guild but I was laughing my butt off. I like being able to just fuck around on voice when doing runs – but I have a feeling not everyone appreciates it. Although we didn’t pull out the C word (which I was fully expecting based on what Craig has told me).
Thanks to the guys above – you were fantastic and thank you for putting up with my lower tanking skill/gear. The tears in my eyes were legitimately forming out of appreciation.
So many people were involved in me being able to get this purple bear, I had tears in my eyes I was so happy! Thanks to everyone involved prior to this latest part – Drew, Michael, Ben, Oui, Nelly, Fred, Simon, Craig, Aaron, Lana and Nathan and the rest of the guild for all the mythics, raiding and gear upgrades.
You guys are the absolute team and I appreciate it so much.
I feel pretty happy knowing I tanked a level 16 mythic, definitely wasn’t expecting to be able to get through it especially with the affixes. I know I have tanked all of Heroic Antorus so I should feel more capable but you know I am self conscious.
I cannot preface this post enough to explain how everything that follows stems from a deep sadness at being misled by Blizzard at a time that should have been amazing.
I do not see the silver lining on this.
We were going to run some mythics for the weekly quest however Michael was eating dinner; instead of harassing him to masticate faster we took the opportunity to jump into Nighthold and get the last of the shards I needed for Balance of Power.
I only needed 4, so we wrangled an elite squad of death and destruction which included Simon, Brian, Fred, Ben, Drew, Michael and myself. The guys were fantastic for coming along and helping me get the last few shards. I cannot thank them enough. Michael didn’t arrive until later, so in the interim I switched to healing. Bad idea. I couldn’t find the spell which put the green circle on the ground, I had to manually select people then the spell, and I was basically just clicking things in the hopes they would light up.
I am not a very good healer. I didn’t even have Brez on my bars…had to do that on the fly when Drew needed a rez before tanking the second add. It was a disaster! Then Michael came online and I was so freaking excited!
After handing in then killing Guldan for his eyeballs, I went off excitedly to hand in my quest but the chain continued. So I delayed that to help Fred in Emerald Nightmare with the rest of the group to obtain the last of his corrupted essence. We tried Ursoc again for the hidden artifact – which Simon got!!! We tried for Michael’s hidden one off the dragons and Ben needed something off the eyeball.
Once that was complete I headed back to my quest chain, flew to Moonhold and received all the power!! I was so excited because this meant I was going to get my purple bear!
We start off with this horrid green bear :p after receiving all the power.
I have improved history by doing the longest quest chain in game. It probably isn’t but my god, it certainly feels like it is.
I ported directly back to my class hall and my tree to switch to purple. This is what greeted me.
It was locked? LOCKED?!?!?!? I have – as per the notes on the tool tip – “Completed a Mythic mode Dungeon using a level 15 keystone” AND I had just completed “Balance of power”. What gives Blizzard – as your tool tip reads – I have done the requirements?
Craig suggested the other day I needed to do the 15 after having finished the quest line. Is that how you read the above? Would you not put the 15 after the quest line completion then to give it a sense of order,. would you perhaps put them in the same sentence and advise it is required to be after.
I was soo annoyed. So annoyed in fact that I almost rage quit. I had been looking forward to completing this and being purple. Instead I was convinced to to a level 15 then and there. So myself, Simon, Craig, Ben and Michael jumped into a Seat of the Triumverate 15 (which was Craig’s). It was horrific. I lost count of the deaths after about 50. I was so annoyed with the bosses and my failings as a tank – which were more to do with it being Skittish affix this week than anything else, but it was still frustrating as hell. I hate all the bosses in this instance due to past experiences so it was lovely to finally kill this piece of garbage. I hate him with a passion add that to my already simmering rage about my butt being green and not purple – I wanted to see him die.
We eventually got all the way to the last boss and Michael and I had to tank him/her/them (?) from 40% all the way to 0%.
It was the longest boss fight I have ever done, but no way in hell was I going to have to start again! I have to admit it was pretty funny. Michael even posted it on youtube to watch if you want to have a laugh. I would speed it up if you can though as it is just long :p
Thanks so much to the guys for being dragged through a horrific level 15! You were – as always – awesome!
So I headed back to my tree to get me some purple butt! This greeted me again! ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!???!
The conclusion can only be made that it has to be a timed 15. Where is heck does it say timed? For more casual players like me – completing a 15 is hard enough without adding it needing to be timed. When I say hard enough – the two level 15’s I have done have taken over an hour and a half with over 40 deaths – I am so far away from the timer that getting to the end is a massive success in of itself. It isn’t like I am finding this easy you know. Had I known it was a timed 15 I would have just never started on this mission to have it purple. I probably wouldn’t have even completed the Balance of Power. The tooltip should reflect the actual requirements. I still “completed” a 15 when we missed timers and I got the achievement – that says it is complete. Why am I not purple!!! Why would you do this to people.
I am so angry. I am writing this post a few days later (to calm down) and it has made me angry again. I don’t even want to contemplate having to try and do a timed 15. I can’t even get a 15 key to do it? Our mythic group is still at level 13’s with sometimes upgrading a key by one. We haven’t managed to do a 14 yet in timed mode. I have until August I guess if I can be bothered. I am just so depressed about the entire thing. Hashtag devastated.
This is one of the mythics our group keeps running and we just cannot seem to get the bosses. We normally give it a few attempts and then just call it quits. Now though – we can say different. We had a purpose…Screw the timer and let’s just get it done for Michael so he could get a piece of loot. I am not convinced it was worth it, but you know…i loved trying to get it done.
The last time we were in here, Maiden drained our will to live, but we did eventually get it sorted. This time…Attuman was our focus. Sounds easy, no problemo to do. Sure..for a bunch of nublets like us with the stupid necrotic plague hindering us.
I think we wiped about 9 times? Maybe more – before we finally killed him. He is so hard to keep in any semblance of order – and I think it is my fault for not just standing in the stuff and taking it like a good tank. It felt so good to kill him after the crap we have been through with him. When he was almost dead I was so scared we would wipe again. I took evidence. I think we have the fight now, we understand it, it is just about perfecting it. We were actually doing really well time wise as well until just before this point.
Then came Moroes. Pain the butt. Draining the healer, traps breaking, garrote mixed with necrotic plague that I kept forgetting to look for…kiting mobs..gahhhhhh!!! Stupid stupid stupid attachments! Why Blizz WHY!??!!?!? I think this took about 7 attempts with the only positive being by the end we all had traps we could use. We started with only 2, so after the first wipe 4 of us had a trap and then I got mine. Having all of us with traps made it much easier to retrap if needed – even if I was kiting things away for the debuff to drop off.
But finally…after 1 hour and 54 minutes….(yes you read that right…and I typed it correctly) we finally finished this stupid mythic. Thank you, you wacky bunch of crazy people for getting us through and just having a laugh. Never again. If necrotic plague is up – mythics can go die in a fire with sanguine. Screw that! We all better get some decent pieces of loot from the crate or I will rage! Serious rage!
I was chatting to Nelly in guild about the balance of power questline and where I was up to which brought up how I still need to complete a mythic 15 for the purple bear.
Admittedly, during that chat, I laid all the blame on our failure at the feet of our DPS. We were doing quite well initially, we had learnt what we needed to do with the class make up we had but then….all three of them changed….I mean seriously. All of them!?!?
Drew change from Shammy to Priest
Ben changed from Priest to Pally
Oui changed from Warlock to Rogue.
So I am blaming them – and I did so publicly 😀
Anyway whilst chasing meat and completing the main questline for Balance of Power, I got a whisper from Nelly requesting my Guardian services for a Mythic 15. I was pretty wrecked (friends suicide and work issues causing me so much stress right now) and wasn’t really sure I would be able to handle it. I should have trusted that instinct ;p
But we grabbed Ben and Oui and Chris (Sorry if that was wrong) and went on our way to Black Rook Hold. <shudder> I felt bad for not having Drew and Michael in the run with us, but I am hoping we can get one done next week for them, fingers crossed for a key we can do.
It wasn’t a brilliant run by any shot, I was missing my cooldowns and had no clue what was happening for most fights. At one point Chris says to me “Just go up the stairs, grab some spiders and then charge back down to us!” Simple instructions right, pretty clear. Welcome to the world where I completely screw that, forget to charge and die on the way down! YAY ME!
The Nelly saying “Remember to kite the mobs around!” and I was like…”why the heck would you do that, just stand and fight!! TAKE IT!! I have stupid amounts of HP, I can take….any…<dead> oh um.. “<shame>. They turned red, angry and 5 times their size….I didn’t die to that again…just the first time and it made so much more sense the second time.
I have no idea what the death count was in the end and I am pretty sure Ben would have made up for at last 90% of them.
But I know why the places/mobs and bosses seemed so unfamiliar to me, I clearly haven’t done it that much.
Apparently I had never done it mythic before. I know I have done it heroic so it wouldn’t be all that much different, but it made me giggle. The one I do a level 15 is the one I haven’t done. The one time we did do it, I think we did the first 5 packs and kept dying…to..something…I can’t remember but it was awful either way.
Thanks to all for coming and putting up with my fail tanking. I appreciate it. My purple glowy bear is now one massive step closer now. You have no idea how much I appreciate it.
Forever…..and ever….it feels like the longest, longest quest line to want to complete. Seriously killing my patience, but with the release of BfA dates now I have to get it done. It is like a need in me.
I have been doing a quest or to per day depending on what is required which I don’t think is soo bad.
I collected a piece and then they tried to combine it and then nearly killed me!! I mean seriously, who puts these people in positions of power?!?!
I loved the above section – just look at the artwork. Just LOOK!! Goddamn it Blizzard you guys are amazing. Adding this to my header section as well because it is just stunning.
After this I am told I have to go and kill some animals spread all over the Broken isles. Then get a plate to serve all the food on for Odyn to then make you fight his entire dungeon…I mean the dude is huge, he could have taken 4 steps and put me out of my misery immediately.
He finally gives me all the power!!
and I go on my merry way. To…The Nighthold. Kudos to Ben, Oui and Nelly for doing the baby mythics I needed to get to this stage. I figure the next part is going to hurt as I need raid bosses which is why I have been pushing to get to it as quickly as possible.
Everyone decided to give The Nighthold a try with me, which I was ecstatic about! We weren’t sure how far we would actually get through with the 4 of us, but as luck would have it, Fred jumped online and he didn’t respond to Nelly’s question of coming with us, so I just ninja invited him and woo! he accepted 😀
We burnt through 5 bosses and I got 2 Nightshards. But the 5 bosses were pretty easy really. We still needed to know some of the start involved and had I done this without Nelly and Fred I would have been dead soo quickly. They were giving me all the information!
I particularly like this achievement from killing Trillax.
It is nice to know Nighthold can be done with a 5 man group, and I suggested if people were free we maybe look at continuing tomorrow night before shut down. So we shall see how that goes. Fred also made comment about doing an alt run for all the old raids – can’t say I would complain at the moment. Especially if doing Nighthold 🙂 I am being so selfish! ahaah
Of course the part fo the night was calling Nelly a playboy bunny….but tell me it isn’t accurate? REOW!
As part of the quest chain to get reputation with the Nightfallen, I was required to do a couple of heroics (Acway and CoS). So whilst we were waiting for Oui to come home and do some mythics, I convinced Ben and Drew to run me through the heroics. I figured we would smash them out very quickly and I could then continue with the hell called Suramar. At last check before the heroics I was 7000/12000 through honoured wondering if I really did need this glowy bear butt.
However we went to CoS, and I tried to smash through the mobs we needed so that should we get it on mythic + again we have a better idea – especially as i failed last time.
At the end of the heroic as the last boss died…my toon had a green flash and I was very confused.
I got revered!! YES!!! So I headed straight back to Suramar and got the stupid scroll needed and then grabbed the next part of the quest chain. Drew says, “Don’t you want to do the other heroics as well for rep?”I say, “No fucking way!! I got what I needed!!” LOL. I was already annoyed with Suramar for the day as I wasn’t able to hand in the quests I completed because I had to farm more ancient mana to feed the addicts. I was empty from having completed the Leylines the day before. I hate this place – have I mentioned that?
Thus begins part 10/21 which is running 3 mythics and getting items from them.
Thankfully no keys needed just mythic level. By this time Oui was home so we pulled him into the group and then tried to find a fifth. Metafor (Aaron) jumped in with us. Given this list of quests has my 2 most hated mythics we decided to start with Vault of Wardens, and you know….again, it wasn’t that bad. Ben seemed to know where to move with the light on the last boss and that made it so much easier. We even did the world quest which was the owl puzzle Start up sequence.
I have avoided it so much that I even managed to get the achievements!
I feel so proud of myself…lol….I got Ahead of the Curve before I went into VoW!
We headed to the Arcway after that to get another one completed and managed to get 2 achievements as well. I wonder if I should investigate the Dungeon achievement and see how many I have on my druid…given the amount of mythics we have been running lately.
It was pretty funny in the Arcway, as the last boss ports us back, Ben says he knows the way so I follow him Aaron says, “Are you sure?” whilst running in a different direction, with affirmative responses I continue to follow Ben who then not 3 seconds later says… “Actually I am not sure! Turn around!!” hahahaahh I couldn’t stop laughing. The scapegoat being the map which doesn’t show a door but an open corridor.
I would have liked to have completed the CoS as well but Oui was keen to actually do a keyed and I had managed to score a NL+9, so we headed off to do that as Drew was sure he could handle it. Turns out the weeks affixes are buggers. Bursting and Skittish. We smashed through that without too much issue, occasionally I would forget about the DoT and pull extra stuff and Drew would huff and me..lol….I heard it through my headphones or there would be the low level “noooo”..oops.
I actually didn’t even check what my key upgraded to, so will need to check that out today, maybe we can get a few more mythics down over the easter weekend. I am glad to have gotten through the Suramar questline though. I am just a little closer now to my goal. Thanks to everyone.
This quest is part of a comment-size guide for “Balance of Power.” questline (the last quest…finally). Quests are pretty much self-explanatory and all it takes is some time and good will to complete them. Completing this questline rewards Artifact Appearance (Appearance 3, Tint 1).
Image of Kalec appears in your Order Hall and gives you the following quest: The Power Within (Meet Archmage Kalec at Azurewing Repose in Azsuna.) Reasons behind appearance of Archmage Kalec in your Class Order Hall are not yet completely understood but most people noticed him few days after they completed their Class Campaign.
From there you take a next quest from Senegos: The Heart of Zin-Azshari (Retrieve the Heart of Zin-Azshari and defeat the Wrath of Azshara in the Eye of Azshara on Mythic difficulty.)
After completing the previous quests you receive a few new quests (exactly 3: two from Senegos and one from Archmage Kalec).
Senegos: A Vainglorious Past (Obtain a Vainglorious Draught from Veridis Fallon.)
– You can purchase Vainglorious Draught from Veridis Fallon in Crumbled Palace [46.9 , 41.4] in Azsuna for 150g (Requirement: Court of Farondis – Honored).
Fallen Power (Recover a Corrupted Essence from Oakheart and defeat the Shade of Xavius in Darkheart Thicket on Mythic difficulty.)
Archmage Kalec: Tempering Darkness (Obtain 30 Blood of Sargeras.) Should not be a problem since by the time you get that quest and if you did not spend any Blood of Sargeras you should have some stacked up simply by completing Dungeons and World Quests.
Archmage Kalec: Lucid Strength (Absorb the power from the Corrupted Essence using the Heart of Zin-Azshari.) Right next to you.
Senegos: The Wisdom of Patience (Await the opening of The Emerald Nightmare, then report back to Senegos in Azsuna.)
Archmage Kalec: In Nightmares (Obtain a Deathglare Iris and the Horn of the Nightmare Lord from The Emerald Nightmare.) NOTE: NOT doable with LFR. It has to be Normal difficulty or higher. In order to complete this quest you need to kill 2 bosses: Il’gynoth and Xavius and loot mentioned quest items.
Senegos: Essence of Power (Collect 30 Corrupted Essence from The Emerald Nightmare.) This quest gave me a weird WoD and Khadgar flashback. NOT doable with LFR. Only Normal or higher difficulty. Essences do not have a 100% drop rate and bosses can drop 1-2 Corrupted Essences at the time.
Senegos: Essential Consumption (Absorb the combined power of the Corrupted Essences using the Heart of Zin-Azshari.) Right next to you.
Ashildir: A Feast Fit for Odyn (Acquire flank meat from Thunderhoof in Stormheim, Spinesever’s spine in Highmountain, and a steak from Leytusk in Azsuna.)
Presentation is Key (Retrieve 4 Adamantium Casing Scraps and defeat Dargrul the Underking in Neltharion’s Lair on Mythic difficulty.)
Ashildir: Odyn’s Blessing (Obtain Odyn’s blessing in the Halls of Valor on Heroic or Mythic difficulty.)
– Use Grand Feast of Valhallas when you enter the dungeon – at the start. You can enter the dungeon alone, put the feast down, get out and then get a group to defeat Odyn and get his blessing. After you defeat him wait for him to finish his speech (RP) and then you can collect his blessing on the loot chest.
Archmage Kalec: Planning the Assault (Await the opening of the Nighthold, then meet Archmage Kalec in Shal’Aran.)
Archmage Kalec: Into the Nighthold (Collect 20 Nightshards from the Nighthold on Normal difficulty or higher.)
– Try and complete this quest without killing Gul’dan because if you kill him before acquiring The Nighthold: Darkness Calls quest in Part 20 he won’t drop quest item for you this week and you’ll need to wait for a next reset to complete The Nighthold: Darkness Calls quest in Part 20.
Thalrenus Rivertree: The Nighthold: Delusions of Grandeur (Collect the core of Trilliax and Grand Magistrix Elisande’s Millennia Tome in the Nighthold on Normal difficulty or higher.)
Archmage Kalec: Balance of Power (Absorb the combined power of the Nightshards and the Eye of Gul’dan using the Heart of Zin-Azshari at the Lunar Crucible.)
This is the entire quest chain I have to complete to get my glowly bear appearance Balance of Power. I am up to ….part 9. OF TWENTY ONE PARTS!! Part 9. Which on its own is tolerable. Unless, like me, you hated Suramar so much you avoided it so thoroughly that you don’t even have your mask. I am now stuck on part 9 completing the stupid questline to get Revered with the Nightfallen. I am hating every minute of it. I was annoyed that I needed to even do the first part on my pally to get her class mount to buy the stupid gem.
I cannot express my hatred for this place. If any other achievements on my toons need this place they can stay incomplete unless they are super compelling…ie…mounts/pets/titles.
My hatred refers to the questing. The need for ancient mana farming, the need to always be on the lookout for being busted out of your disguise and the constant back and forth to Meredil after 2 quests. The city itself is gorgeous and the artwork is magical – no complaints whatsoever about the look and feel.
I do adore the change to the druid forms when under the mask. Cat form is my favourite!
The owl is pretty nice as well.
I just completed the Leyline Bling achievement last night which is barely through the zone quests and shows me at about 5000/12000.
I am running around in feral doing the quests just because it is faster to kill things (though my bear isn’t that bad!). I am going to have to pick Lana’s brain soon about a easy/fast “rotation” instead of just smooshing buttons when they light up and hoping for things to die. I am not wanting top DPS here, just gimme 5 buttons I can smoosh and rip people’s faces off.
So…my balance of power is all to get this appearance. The pain and hatred is all to have this purple glowly bear butt! If i lose it after legion I swear to all the aspects of the dragons I will rage like Ursoc.
I have to complete Balance of Power AND a level 15 mythic – which my group wants anyway. To do the level 15 mythic we need our DPS to have better gear (Ben/Drew switched toons on us for and haven’t managed to spend time getting the gear. Oui changed as well but he came to a normal run and went up like 40 ilevels or something stupid). I think Tank wise I am ok and Michael is fantastic for healing. I think we can do a 15, we just need to focus on gear and making sure we have maximum DPS output to do it. I want to get it done before the xpac ends – even more so now.
So I continue with the quest line which requires 8 mythic dungeons throughout and some raids in Normal mode. <tired sigh> I am never going to finish this. All help is appreciated!
