Running LFR

There are two fields of thought on this:

1: Blizzard heard my screeching in guild chat

2: Running content is the best way to get that elusive orange gear.

Which do you think happened?  It wasn’t getting a direct message from Ian H providing me with the juicy stuff let me just say!

But I did manage to get my first whilst running LFR the other night.  I should start by explaining my husband had to go overseas for work – for 9 weeks, so after dropping him off at the airport (at about 1pm) I needed a distraction because I was not coping with the tears or the waiting to hear if he landed and got to the hotel ok.  In the end he called at 2am my time. So you can imagine how exhausted I was and how much content I had gone through by then.

I started with Gul’dan (I signed up for 5 LFR’s this popped first and would not have been first choice!  heheh) which felt a little like I was going backwards with story line after this fight but ok!  I cannot imagine, in my wildest nightmares, what this fight is like on mythic, or even normal.  It terrified me in LFR mode.  We did wipe the first time, however once everyone was advised to focus down the adds it went much smoother the second time and I am pretty sure we only lost a couple of people.

As soon as this finished it popped me into Trial of Valor

I didn’t take a picture of the first fight but I really enjoyed it – it seemed to happen almost as quickly as it started so I assume that is a good thing.  Helya was a little more chaotic.  I had no idea what was going on, but there was a big feathery boomy DPSing like mental so I generally just followed them around and targeted what they did.  I died on trash though before the dog fight and discovered I could still attack it over the rocks if I jumped for line of sight after being locked out.  Helya did give me a cloak which was an upgrade!

Skorpyron was an ok fight – again over before it began really, I honestly can’t even remember much about it.  Chronomatic Anomaly was annoying (and therefore good) as all heck.  Never has it taken me so long to cast anything in my entire life, I was just trying to get my pyro to proc as much as possible.  Trillax was an awesome fight – I almost got killed on one of the last pink beams of death because I got cocky and thought he would die faster than the beam would kill me.  I would not test this theory out again.  Just avoid the stuff.  It is safer.

The next one to fall to my mad quest for distraction was Tichondrius.  Also a hectic as anything fight which made little to no sense, but all I did was kill adds and then attack boss when I could.  I didn’t mind it for a fight, I can imagine it being painful in normal/mythic without a bit of focus though.  He dropped me a tier piece for my shoulders “Mantle of Everburning KNowledge”. SQUEE!  They are very pink, doesn’t go with the fire mage inside, but I will cope!

Krosus will always have a place in my heart because he finally gave up the lovely orange loots!  Yesss!!  My very first legendary was from an LFR run and not a world emissary quest.  I liked this fight, with the beams of death and the smashing of the bridge.  It wasn’t overly hard and I do wonder what aspects are in the harder versions which alter this significantly.

This final boss got me the Nightspire achievement.  Another fight that I spent more time following a boomy around and killing adds than actually being on the boss, but these fights seem that if you don’t have some focus you quickly get overrun with extras and it goes pear shaped very quickly.  I don’t mind being the support DPS as I was not anywhere near the top on meters – and ultimately I don’t even look for anything other than to make sure I am doing better than last. Especially given how behind I am in terms of gear (sitting on 860 now I believe) and comparing to groups of people with much higher ilevels is just lunacy.

The last boss I did was High Botanicst Te’larn, at this point it was about 8pm adnd all the parents had started to call to find out if I was coping without hubby and so it was just getting annoying trying to do 2 things at once.  As it is I don’t really remember this fight as I was dead for 80% of it, I got ressed at some point and then just button mashed until the end – which was about 30 seconds.

I decided I had had enough at that point and stopped with the LFR’s. There is only so much speed running you can handle when you are not focused or giving everything your full attention.  I did enjoy all the boss fights though so I can’t wait to get back in there now that I have seen them and actually learn what I need to do a bit better.  How are you guys enjoying LFR?  Fun? Bored?

PETS!! So many pets!

I am actually a little surprised that I have so many.  I just wish I was as keen on levelling them as collecting.

Lominari asked me how many pets I actually had and I discovered it was only 597 – with an achievement for 600 I decided to go and hunt some down.

After having run Trial of the Crusader in 25 man heroic and having a pet drop whilst chasing argent tourney seals we decided to do ICC 25 man heroic and see if any would drop.  Nope.

So I decided I would just hunt some down the old fashioned way.  Thanks to Warcraft pets I figured out where I would find the most amount of battle pets I had left to collect.

My 600th by pure random chance was a lovely blue pet! I get so few blues so it was very nice to see, I seem to have a huge amount of grey quality ones!!

This goes well with the Legion achievement I got the other day when doing world quests.  I had spent (the previous day) about an hour riding around Felsoul Hold killing the spiders for the last one to spawn and had given up.

Whilst with Lominari (of course), we happen to stumble across the last little bugger!!  You have to kill the Thornclaw Broodling as they share a spawn timer with the Vicious Broodling (which is always a rare quality!).  But this Vicious one was sitting there doing nothing, all alone.  Just waiting to be scooped up!!

We also won’t discuss how Lominari managed to stumble across the rug needed for the Dust Bunny pet as well, then asked me what it was about.  This happened a couple of days after I finally managed to get it (2 weeks in total with checking all the points in Dalaran for the rug whenever I was nearby and overtime I logged on and before I logged off).  He just stumbled on it…..

The guy has more luck than anyone should have!!

The Long forgotten Hippogryph

When I say that Lominari would do pretty much anything required for Talbuk’s or hippogryph mounts, you have to understand I really mean it.  Spend hours farming rare mobs; no problem, farm hundreds of stupid ogre coins; easy.

Happen upon a glowing pink crystal and then spend the next hour chasing them down – done!

My lucky, lucky husband told me what he was doing when he was on the 4th crystal.  He was so nervous about not being able to find the 5th one,  so I headed to Azsuna to help him.  Of course it was me that found the 5th crystal for him, so I do take full credit, sadly I should have kept that small piece of luck for myself.

Here he is grabbing it!  I missed the text which says he has been found but I didn’t realise until after I had logged out.

Lominari is now considering doing the recruit a friend for the Emerald one because we are also doing the Argent tournament again for him to get the one from up there, Silver Covenant. He started with 1oo seals and only needs 150, so it should only take a couple of days and he will be all mounted up with his favourites.

As a side note: I found one of the crystals this morning and spent 3 hours searching – I only found 3 of the required 5.  3 hours. With Lominari running around as well including tom tom points!  No luck.

He disputes this game loves him.  Even though he jumped on his demonhunter yesterday (a toon we got to max level and then did pretty much nothing else on) and ran a mythic with some friends – scored a Legendary!!

Lominari – 2 // Dragonray – 0  <<  Legendary scores.

But nope, he isn’t lucky.

The mount os gorgeous looking though.  I am so very jealous of him!  At least it suits him when he is shadow form with all the purple and pinks.

Heroes of the Storm Mount

I used to play DOTA2 – briefly. Maybe 3 months we played it with some friends so HoTS is not unfamiliar territory to me and I did download when it came out with the intention of playing but no one else I knows plays.  Like Overwatch – all my friends are WoW players first so it makes it hard but even aside from that – I don’t generally have the time to play as much as I would love to.

But I managed to convince Lominari to help me out with this one yesterday – it took us 3 hours to complete the 15 matches.  We did the first 8 or so with beginner level AI, and the rest with the recruit level (which was a little more challenging).  I thought I was taking screenshots during the game but turns out I didn’t, so you guys are lucky you get a post filled with Blizzard pictures instead!

I played Jaina to start with as we didn’t really have many options available and I didn’t want to play a healer.

Lominari played Muradin the entire time:

After the 4th match I started switching between Jaina and Anub’arak:

I really enjoyed it, the maps were great and had different requirements with altars, temples, curses etc.  It was a lot of fun. I would possibly play more if I had others who were keen, however I think I would prefer to play Overwatch if given the choice between the two. Although, you could potentially create the same group of 5 players for both games as casual people and just have a bit of fun switching what you played each week. (That would be my ideal situation).

In the end we got close to a couple of losses however we triumphed and we won all 15 games and successfully got our awesome mount in WoW!

And you get this lovely little package delivered to your collection tab.  Am I the only one who misses the mounts and pets being delivered to your mailbox with a little note expressing different sentiments?  I know it was painful setting up new toons and spending 20 minutes at a post box but it felt that little bit more personal.  You just can’t have it both ways I guess?

When you hit the spacebar, flames come out the side – as a fire mage, this gets me excited because it matches my transmog and style.

And finally a normal picture of the awesomeness:

The event ends on the 13th March so if you want to get it done, I would suggest you get cracking.  3 hours was constant play for us and some experience with the type of game play needed.  I would be very happy to jump into groups if needed – just yell out 🙂

Mage: Class Campaign complete

Well Stage 1 is complete.  So far behind the 8-ball with my characters because of my lack of free time.

I am pretty excited I did this on my mage first.

I feel pretty important now that I can use Archmage as my title, I hope the other billion mages learn to fear and respect me now.  Archmage and all!

Damn straight! I am a little let down that my class gear is not as good as anything else I am picking up, but I am guessing that is because I didn’t do this in the same time frames as everyone else.  Had I done it on time it may have been good.

I also got a new artifact look – sunreaver style.  I adore this.  I really like it in the blue so I may have to unlock that and come up with a new transmog that suits a blue style.  If only I could have blue fire like warlocks have green.  I would be epic.

How sexy is that?!!?  Look at that blade.  It even looks like it is Forged in battle. I am super happy with the new look, I just wish I could unlock something awesome looking for my offhand which looks really sub-par for a phoenix heart.  I have to investigate the many offhand items out there and see if anything would make me happy.

Onto my other toons now, Demonhunter and Druid to complete their class quests.  I am also starting to level my Paladin in the Frostwolves because I really do miss them.

Free time again!!

So as most of my usual readers/friends know I do martial arts 3 nights a week (Tues/Wed/Thurs) and I am also studying for a bachelor online.  The last trimester of uni (which finishes this week) I decided to do 2 modules as I would in theory have 3 extra nights to study because martial arts were on extended holidays of Christmas. I was wrong.  The workload was way more than I anticipated.

I basically had no time for anything other than work, study and sleep.   I won’t likely do that again any time soon if I ever want to have free time to play WoW.

So a group of us have decided to do some regular dungeons runs on weekends which again, we haven’t managed to do with my schedule.  Finally this weekend just past we managed to get online for a couple of hours.

We did our first Mythic run “Halls of Valour” with Blikolorie tanking, Nibblepie healing, me and Lominari DPSing and we grabbed some random 5th person.  I might point out, neither Lominari or myself were really geared enough to be in there.  I think Lominari had a gear score of 816 or something and I was only 831.

The last boss was a little…difficult.  We had to do it about 8 times – if not more – and the random pug was really nice about the entire thing.  In the end…we got it done!

We decided to do some more work quests and chase some gear on the map, but headed to the epic world boss quickly first which scored some more gear upgrades for Lominari.  We did a whole bunch of quests and handed in 2 different emissary hand ins.

Do I look like I have a legendary yet? Do you see one on me anywhere? Can you see orange somewhere?

By the time we finished all the quests etc I managed to be on 838 for my ilevel and Lominari is now much more improved at 830.

We could even do some LFR which I am thinking i might do this week just to see what the new raids are like. Only the early raids at this stage but I am looking forward to – and also getting through some more of the Suramar quest line.  We are so far behind on the questing/class halls it is pretty daunting.

Over-watching again

Yeah, I am an addict of both overwatch and WoW now.

I am starting to learn how to play Lucio – a healer.  His is not a direct heal class, he is AOE essentially and needs to be in range for his healing aura to be effective.

I actually quite enjoy playing him.  I manage to get some gold medals with him and even have had some commendations at the end of the matches.  I feel quite proud of myself for that effort since FPS style games are not generally my strong suit.

I am trying to learn how to play D.VA as a tank but it is a little touch and go with success rates. Certainly no medals or commendations on this one, but that is no different to when I was trying to play Soldier 76.

I am still working on the other heroes but am still really trying to learn how to play the game.  Sometimes I feel like I am on point and going well, others i just feel like i am being smashed in the face repeatedly by a sentient brick wall.

Either way I find it enjoyable.  I really do wish I had friends that played though as I think being in a pre-made would make a massive difference to the way you can play. I am also nowhere near good enough yet to have learnt all the shortcuts on the maps and being able to use them to my advantage.

Some teams come in and just seem to steam roll over the top of everyone. It really is impressive.  I am only level 14, so still quite a baby in terms of experience but I am looking forward to spending more time getting better.

I have bene playing more Overwatch than WoW as I am feeling quite stressed and being able to blow people up has been quite therapeutic but more because I can play a couple of games in about 15 minutes and then log off without guilt.

Azerothian cooking

I had some friends over tonight to play some D&D, a campaign in fact that Lominari had created especially for the holiday season in which we had to defeat….KRAMPUS!!

It was a great story for his first time writing a campaign. It was funny because he had the absolute worst rolls the entire time – so bad in fact that only 1 of our party took 3 points of damage (2 were a buff as well). Krampus had so much health that the 4 of us added together still would have only had half it health pool! We rocked it!!

Anyway because we all play WoW i decided to try out some of the recipes in my cook book.  I made a few of the sides so there was some variety.

I started with the Wild rice cakes. Everyone loved them; I felt i used too much flour but I will try them again later and see if that was indeed the case.

This is the mixture before cooking. I made so much extra rice by accident that We might be eating it for a couple of days.

I also made the “sauteed carrots” from Pandaria. These were so delicious.

The picture above has the “zanga caps” as well. I cannot truly explain how yummy the mushrooms are, they would work well with steak or any roast or, well, jus about anything else! I have a small amount left over and plan to have some with bacon in the morning.  You can also see the cooked wild rice cakes in the image below.

For dessert I made “Dalaran brownies”.

I had to make these with Gluten free flour so I have no idea what they would be like with normal flour; but these were amazing. Dense, chocolatey, soft and fudgey.

The glaze was so good that one of my guests ended up licking the plate clean of the excess.

This was just at the beginning of the licking. It was pretty much empty by the end of the night.

So of the 4 recipes i made from the book tonight – all four were well received by my guests. The mushrooms seemed to be the most favoured by the majority but it was a slim margin on the others.

I really enjoyed cooking these recipes and it has made me want to try out other ones that are not in it 🙂 Maybe I can help with a volume 2?

Upgrading the beast

Sadly my computer has now seen better days.  The last time we did anything to them was 5 years ago – actually closer to 6 now and this means, in terms of technology, they are getting a little long in the teeth.

We initially upgraded Lominaris completely because it was having an issue with just randomly shutting down after about 10 minutes of game time.  Mine was ok though.  I can seem to play WoW for about an hour before it gets too much and just shuts down.  This issue seems to have been made worse by the purchase of Overwatch,

Overwatch allows me to get into the game, pick a toon, get into the skirmish run around for the 2 minutes it takes to get into an actual match and through the countdown timer for the start.  Once the gates open though – BAM shut down!  I can maybe run to the actual defense point but I can’t last more than about 3 minutes. It then seems to take about 10 minutes for my pc to fully load up and the minute I get back into a game I am out again. It is so frustrating!!

So after figuring mine was ok to run a few months longer we were denied!!  Such a shame.

Anyway, I am hoping to have my pc upgrade started tonight (I have to switch the CPU today) and then re-installing all 30Gb of game files. {sarcasm} Joy.  Then I will be back online finally.

Post Pax Blues

Lominari and I have been attending PAX every year since 2014  We missed the first event in 2013 sadly.  I enjoy the weekend more than I should as it is an awesome time to catch up with friends and be invested in something where other people have similar interests to yourself.

I always find the crowds manageable and given the size of the venue I don’t ever feel like I am getting bumped/pushed etc, all the anxious types attending an event must allow for personal space awareness!  It is actually quite good.

I tried my first VR this year as well and as I keep saying if they ever made WoW into a VR I would quit my job and just go on the dole and do nothing but play it.  I couldn’t imagine anything better.  VR is a long way off that though but wouldn’t it be grand 🙂  Especially if it was on one of those walking machines as well – although I watched some poor guy struggle to even stand up in it so I am not sure I am co-ordinated enough for that myself.

This is a short clip of me doing VR with a little archery game – so cute and much better than I was expecting VR to feel.  I didn’t have any nausea issues with this game either.

We also gave Overwatch a try at PAX as the “Omen by HP” people had it running on their laptops. Funny story, about 2 minutes after we sat down at the laptop, one of the stand people advised us to just keep playing as they would be filming us on the laptops and since they needed footage we just had to keep playing until they told us to stop.  I think we ended up playing for about 40 minutes – if not an hour and just before we left we got given a huge mousemat each by Steelseries.  It was pretty awesome.  We went home and then bought Overwatch straight away we enjoyed it that much. So if any of you guys play, let me know as we would love to have more people to play with.

overwatchThe only other game we played was Dawn of War 3 – it was so stunningly beautiful graphics wise and I managed to fail the mission.  However whenever I play that style game, I always feel I should play Starcraft.  They do have a free trial for Starcraft where you get almost the full version so I might download that at some point and give it a chance.

We also upgraded our computer chairs from the awful ones we had previously.  Whilst my chair wasn’t entirely bad, it wouldn’t lift up any more, Lominari’s chair was so bad it had lost all it’s faux leather covering and was leaning to the side slightly.  I can’t imagine it was comfortable for him.  But have a look at these beauties.  They are so comfortable to sit in, they have adjustable armrests and you can almost lie flat in them, thanks to ZQ Racing who were having a 50% off sale making them still bloody expensive so they better be good quality and last.

Lominaris chair is on the right of the picture and mine is the left. We both picked blue by chance and got slightly different shades which is kind of nice. I spent last night doing a uni assignment and it was so comfortable!

The only other exciting thing about PAX I need to mention is my Pin collection!  I got hooked at my first PAX and spend far too much money on these little buggers, but I love it!  This year I went to Lowes and bought a cheap vest to pin them all on.  I also ordered secure backs but they didn’t arrive in time, of course they arrived the Tuesday after PAX 🙂

pinny-arcadeThis was my pinned vest prior to PAX (I am yet to add all my new pins to it). I managed to have a couple lose their backs but stay in my vest, which I was very happy about, however I seem to be missing a few pins that I have marked off in my app, so I think I have another lanyard hiding in the house  it could be anywhere.  That is my next quest – to locate the lost pins.  A few people were asking me about my profile on pinnypals.com website when I was trading and I advised whilst I was on there I never used it, but given the popularity of it (some people had bags/T-shirts/flyers etc) I think I will start making an effort.

As you can see – I have nowhere near a complete collection but I only get to go to 1 pax a year and not all of them. I am happy with my collection though 🙂

pinnypals

I also have a friend in the US who is going to send me pins they have lying around and I am super excited about that as any duplicates I get I can trade. The biggest shout out to my Sydney friends though because after coming back to our place on Sunday night for food and Blizzcon videos they left their pins strategically placed under a book for me so I could have 2 more early bird pins for trading.  I will give super squishy hugs when I see them next!  This combined with the pins Chapooke got for me earlier in the year (with my spectacular Red Whelping plushy) I am feeling completely inundated with pinny trading love!  I cannot thank my friends enough for helping with my obsession.
